My dad noped straight out of the final scene. He was really happy about the Dorne scene because now there are fewer characters for him to remember and he enjoyed the scene with "the redhead and the brutish woman" My friends and I have a group message specifically for this and they were all giving Theon the MVP award for this episode. One of them was pissed at Ellaria and one was mourning Doran pretty hard. They all expected more out of "the black guy" too The general consensus was that Davos is a true gangster and the mutton play was well respected. They feel bad for Stannis being catfished and all agreed that the Dosh Khaleen sounds like no fun. Everyone liked seeing the Dothraki again and thought they were funny but we are all most excited for Bran to come back. What about your family and acquaintances?

I watched alone Well, I'm making up for it by reading the comments in the unsullied threads on NeoGAF, CHUD and Previously.tv. It's been quite fun so far

My mom was quietly enjoying the episode, but then screamed "What the fuck!" about 7 times when Mel turned into an old woman.

My husband accused me of reading spoilers before hand. I don't know why he would think that? My mom sent me a text that said "Red woman.....I don't get it."

My friend texted me and told me she wasn't happy about the episode, except for the Sansa seen. She's worried that the rest of the season will be shit.

Good news for me is that D&D threw in 3 shocks at audience in one ep without much justification in killing off Martells in 2 scenes and in ending and the LSH is the biggest shock of all so hopefully they throw her in too. They need all the smokescreen they can get with that writing

I second or third (behind Admin) your friend's concern. I watch with Mr. Kingeomer and he was throughout the whole episode and he gives the show a lot of leeway. A few of his comments: Good thing Sansa doesn't know that Brienne sat around waiting for her to light a candle and when she did finally light that candle, Brienne found it more important to kill Stannis. I think the Philadelphia Police Department could use Ser Jorah on cold cases. He's better than Matlock. Well, I guess whoever was on the receiving end of Melisandre's text in that mirror was disappointed. If they kill Davos off, I am going to be so mad (I will say not Boardwalk Empire killed of Richard Harrow level mad, because he's still mad about that...) And then he said, well their premieres aren't usually their strongest episodes. Hopefully this stuff pays off.

I do think that some people expected more action and this episode had a lot of setup. That's why I think Sansa's scene was well liked. We'll have to see though.

My brother said "that was so Catelyn" about Sansa during the oath scene which made me happy. He seemed genuinely disturbed by Old Hag Mel.

Oh god.. Apparently my dad still thinks Stannis is alive and it's breaking my heart all over again to tell him over and over that he is indeed gone, for good.

My mum thinks the episode was way too short. I think she wanted Jon back ASAP. The only thing she said about Dorne was that she loved Ellaria's dress so I don't think she gives a shit about that development really. About Mel she said that she's probably lost her faith and further her taking off her necklace like that "would be like if I stopped dyeing my hair." She thinks Cersei's become more compassionate to Jaime because now she's been humiliated too. Her favourite part was BriPod saving Sansa and Theon.

I know it's a set-up episode, but I think the pacing would have been a bit better if the scenes were longer.

Finally talked to my eldest son last night. He's going to college "up north" (wisconsin!) and just started the show in Season 4. AND he's reading the books (audio book version) and on #3 so I'm really proud of him - he's 21 this year and started watching the show at 19. He's a big Stark fan (who isn't!) so he was really happy Sansa didn't die. I guess he had fears she wouldn't make it from the jump or that Ramsay would kill her for trying to escape. He's indifferent to the sandsnakes and Dorne story and didn't think it was that cheesy so apparently not everyone out there is as critical of it as we are. He asked me why Bran wasn't in the premiere episode because he felt like they emphasized him a lot in the trailers (and they did) so it wasn't cool to leave him out of the first episode. He likes Bran's story a lot. He's pretty sure Jon comes back from the dead. He made a really good point that if Jon was just really dead, why bring him inside and put him on a table and stand guard over him... that's not really normal for dead people is it? Lastly, he thought the scene with Melisandre was super freaky but he loved it. He understands she's depressed and lost after failing Stannis but he is worried she won't put her 'young face' back on haha. He also wants her to do the kiss of life like Thoros did, so he's on the ball with that one though I've discussed the "theories" at length with him because he wanted to know where the books cut off last season.

As I said "normal" fans don't hate Dorne. They just don't care that much.
