I hope HBO won't force them to destroy the show. Everything was almost perfect. They need only good ending now.

Tbh I think there are other seasons that would've benefited from being shorter (s3 especially). So I'm glad they're making this move. It'll make for a tighter final product for sure and more time can be put into the writing and the shooting of individual sequences than before. And hopefully of those final 13 episodes, GrrM can write at least one.

What they don't need is protracted talks about this kind of thing. The show has been so good to HBO that they should really afford the showrunners the license to finish it on their own terms. If they want to milk the franchise, there's always spin-offs and such, but don't make things too difficult for the showrunners in sticking the landing.

Thanks for thinking of me and any other holdouts. This seems like it could only be good news to me. Worst case scenario is HBO wants more seasons, so they extend the story into something unwieldy and unplanned to make it longer. More seasons with fewer episodes will make us wait longer, but we'll still get the show in the way it's been planned from the beginning. That should mean it stays truer to GRRM's original intent and, more importantly, to things they set up in earlier seasons.

Two seasons for Euron is just not enough. I don't know, I want at least eight full seasons.

I think it is enough. If our predictions are true, we will loose Roose, Ramsay, LF and Walder Frey this year. That leaves Cersei, Euron, HS and NK for the last 13 episodes. It sounds good and reasonable.

Yes and another point that someone mentioned in the other thread was that production will only get even more massive for the final chapter of the story, so they'd need shorter seasons to keep up with that. I mean in regards to that massive final battle that is coming and whatnot.

So I don't know how that will all pan out in terms of writing out contracts and what it will then count as legally. But I'd say it's a good route towards a well-paced ending regardless.

The only problem would be if there is not a natural break between the two seasons. The seventh season finale could feel very anticlimactic in that case. But I don't see much of a downside otherwise.

But the season seven climax could be Dany trying to seize KL and whatever happens to our favourite incestuous twins. IMO that would be a great climax.

So what does this mean for TWOW and ADOS? GRRM said they'll be as big as ADWD, if not bigger. Are they going to end up with a bunch of filler and shorter than expected or are D&D going to completely ignore what happens in them and go straight to the end?
