Watch season 1 and decide whether you like the feel of the show. It's a supernatural/extra-terrestrial phenomenon focused show and its probably not for everyone. Although there are some episodes that are just very good, in terms of writing and enjoyment. Nearly every episode is solving a mystery, its a week-to-week series with an overall story arch as well. The pairing of Mulder and Scully is what will make you fall for this series, the duo just works.

It's very 90's and I don't think you could compare it to a lot of recent shows. They did things differently in those days, but it doesn't necessarily mean it is bad TV. I love it and it will always be a classic series for me.
