I'm an idiot, wrong Zach. Ha! No worries, I thought they might have both appeared in the movie. The only thing I know Zac Effron from is Neighbors, which I actually liked.

Basil I LOVE the Hairspray remake. I actually prefer it to the original. (Even though wtf at Amanda Byne's casting. She can't sing)

Hairspray is one of the few musicals where I actually prefer the movie over the stage production. (Although I'm a bit disappointed that they decided to cut "Mama, I'm a big girl now" )

I liked the one they added to the movie though, "Got So Far To Go." and omg Elijah Kelly that boy can sing.

But overall, I think the movie is great. Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma was brilliant, and I'm glad they toned down the weirdness of the original movie and the stage production a little bit.

The other night I watched Francois Truffaut's The Soft Skin (1964). Jean Desailly plays Pierre Lachenay, a famous novelist who starts an affair with a beautiful flight attendant named Nicole(Francoise Dorleac). The film opens up with Pierre frantically rushing through his Parisian apartment, dodging his wife and daughter as he rushes to pack his bags so he can make a flight he's running late for. He's scheduled for a lecture in another city, and we don't know why he's running late, but we can instantly tell that this is a common occurrence for the writer. He admits that making his flight at this point is impossible, considering traffic, his wife offers to drive him but in the same breath admits he'll lose his temper at her for driving too slowly. His daughter joins him on the trip to the airport as his friend dangerously speeds through the streets of Paris. The plane is about to take off but the employees at the airport recognize him and manage to get him on the plane in time. This is where he meets Nicole. Pierre runs into Nicole at his hotel and presumptuously calls her late at night after his lecture. Nicole recognized him, but admits she's never read any of his books. Pierre postpones his flight back to his family so he can have dinner with Nicole the following evening. While the first act is a bit slow, the film picks up when Pierre and Nicole being their affair. They struggle with their liaisons because Pierre is so famous. Nicole is ashamed to be taken to a sleazy one-hour motel, but she can't take him back to her place for fear of him being recognized. Pierre is quick to neglect his family in favor of spending time with Nicole. His wife has been begging him to take her on a rural vacation, as they haven't gotten away from the city in years. Pierre instead opts to take Nicole with him on this trip where they can spend time together after he gives a lecture. However Nicole quickly learns that Pierre is self-obsessed, and incapable of breaking away from his upper class admirers and celebrity obligations. She herself feels herself being neglected as Pierre is too ashamed to score a ticket for her to attend his lecture. Instead he leaves her at the hotel and gets a drink with his old friend who arranged the lecture. Pierre finds himself becoming obsessed with Nicole, but also eager to hide it so as not to ruin his marriage. Truffaut's films are often more deliberately paced and structured than the films of his friend/rival Jean Luc Godard, but The Soft Skin has some nice moments of ingenuity, including some jump cuts that must have served as early inspiration for Edgar Wright's style in Hot Fuzz. The Soft Skin is a compelling portrait of a man struggling to keep his life together as he lets ego and lust take control.

@nictarion will enjoy this. It's basically just a commercial for some hotel-casino in Manila. But it's got some of his favourites in it.
EDIT: Or maybe it's for multiple hotels. EDIT: Anyhow, Terrence Winter even wrote it too, so it's right up your alley.

At first glance I thought Scorsese was remaking the Takashi Miike film.
