They've been trying to. Arya spent half her time watching people die/sacrifice themselves and cleaning bodies this season and watching them being taken away to somewhere mysterious. Then she gets shown the hall of faces. It's clear even on the show, that the hall of faces is used by the FM to change appearances and complete missions. Well, duh But they haven't established exactly how the FM can use someone else's face, so there is a possibility for Arya to use Catelyn's if they want her to. They might in S6 after Arya regains her sight.

But how is Arya going to change faces in the future (seasons 7 and 8)? If we follow this logic, she's going to have to steal a bunch of faces from the Hall in season 6, which she will then use and reuse in following seasons. And all of the faces would belong to random dead Braavosi characters. I think what someone suggested above is a bit more likely; that Arya will use a form of FM magic to conjure the faces of the dead. It's a simpler concept and it gives the story more range and more possibilities. And who knows about the extent of her powers? If Bran can surpass the 3-eyed raven as a seer (which could happen), why can't Arya rise to the level of the FM?

But learns a magic to sort of- 'access' them. But i think what you're saying is possible. I don't think its possible for Arya to access a magic she's not naturally adept to like Bran. Bran was seeing visions in the weirwood even before BR's training (season 4). There's something more sinister about the FM magic and what you have to sacrifice to actually become Jaquen-level assasin imo. Obviously they can change this on the show so i don't know.

I think is possible to change faces without using an actual face, and maybe Arya will learn to do it before she leaves Braavos, but IMO it would feel rushed. Something that only happens because is necessary to advance her plot. One of the gripes I'll always have with the show is that they delayed Arya's training in THOBAW too much (she should have left for Braavos in the middle of season 4, she did nothing during that whole season) and then they barely scratched the surface of what she is learning.

That's a good point regarding Bran's native talent vs. Arya's acquired talent. But just for logistical purposes, I think it'll be easier if somewhere along season 6 Arya learns how to conjure up a face. Otherwise she'll be doing a lot of butchering in future seasons, or she'll have to stuff her pockets with old faces )

I agree. i feel like her training in season 5 went really slow, i expected them to be teaching her things like she was learning in the book (poisons, about FM history, telling jaquen 3 things everyday) , and to have a successful mission. I do see why they couldn't have her there earlier, as its a whole new location and everything. But yes, it would've worked out better structure-wise this way. I think a fully fledged FM doesn't physically put on a face. But learns a magic to sort of- 'access' them. But i think what you're saying is possible. Lying well enough to convince people you are someone else, disguises and stuff.

I actually thought the girl in this gif, Jessica Brown Findlay, would have made a great Lyanna on the show. I'm really interested to see who they ended up casting, probably someone relatively unknown.

George really muddies that up in the book. Jaqen appears , more magically , to change his similar to what is in the show. When Arya has it done the first time it seems like surgery , yet , has the odd twist that to Arya's tactile senses she discovers she has not changed! Then they seemingly change her back with ease.

There is some kind of magic when they change her face in the book, she starts having nightmares about the identity she becomes, its like shes actually tapping into someone else. I also think its important to note, they do it for her. Like some kind of ritual magic that GRRM realises Arya shouldn't be able to do by herself yet. I don't like how she just puts on the face in the show.

I don't like how she just puts on the face in the show. That's the old Blivit problem. Too little time for the prose narrative within the visual narrative. One thing about the face thing. In Mercy Arya seems to have mastered the 'face' thing. Even tho it does not seem to square with the end of her story in Dance more time seems to have passed too. She seems to have been at the Gate longer than where things were left in Dance. In fact she seems older. (That may have been the 5 year gap?) During that time she must have still been going to the House of Black and White and seeing the Kindly Man. In the books Arya is given the choice of quitting the Faceless several times and she steadfastly refuses. I don't know what all this means , does she finally get into trouble after the Mercy Incident? The Faceless seem to have intent to overlook her transgressions. I still think she will go from Acolyte to Full Faceless yet not be a 'standard' Faceless Person. She may indeed be told to be a rouge FM. To do what? I don't know. I still think the Iron Bank is involved in this.

Yeah I could see her in the role, but if she's only in a couple of scenes it probably is an unknown like you said. Though I'm surprised they never announced yet who is playing Lyanna, Lord Karstark, Wyman, or Aeron.

Why the hell are we even getting Aeron? Terrible character. I would have much rather have had Victarion. At least he could have had some cool action scenes.

They probably wanted another face in the Iron islands during the Kingsmoot besides Euron and Yara and they might be giving some of Victarion's traits to Euron.

Aeron just bores me to tears in the books. The Kinsgmoot chapter is great, but it could have easily been told through Asha or Vic. Hopefully he transfers better to the screen.

I agree and they really could have removed Aeron's chapters entirely. I figured Victarion was cut when Daario took the Meereenese navy in S4, which Barristan said was 93 ships, the same number that Euron sent to Meereen in the books.
