Another vote for wolves. My problem with the direwolves in the show is their unnatural movement.... which I suspect is part of the reason why they are used sparingly.
This is not a GOT problem, though, it's a problem for all CGI/CGI-enhanced animals in movies and shows.
It's easier to fool the brain with dragons, since well.... they're "magic" and all that, and the batlike design also gives them believability. But I prefer wolves for what they represent.
We need a trailer so bad.

I'm not going to lie, I really, really don't give a fuck about any of the direwolves on the show, with the exception of Summer. The show has made its lack of interest in them clear, so I've never allowed myself to get invested. I think the show treats direwolves in precisely the same way Martin does, ignore them till they are relevant. Seems GRRM needs them when there is warging to do.

Lol, guys. Of course GRRM uses the wolves when he "needs" them. That goes for every character in every book ever written. The difference is that in the books the wolves are an emotional entity for themselves. The characters really care for their "pets". The reader also starts caring for them. They are more than just handy devices in a narrative. I'm not saying that the show hasn't had emotional moments with the wolves as well. But they don't happen very often and are not even half as powerful as in the books.

Well, I've read all the books and couldn't careless about direwolves to be honest, they seem to be exactly what they are, a Macguffin to give Jon his warging moment. Nothing more.

One could make the same argument for the dragons as well: a macguffin for Dany. GRRM makes the direwolves very present in Stark POV's (except for Sansa because hers is dead ). Even Robb and Rickon's direwolves had a presence despite them being the only two Starks without a POV. I agree with statement that the show does not care for the direwolves and I suspect their omission, is to them a cost cutting move. Which is why Bran is on the only Stark kid who is actively warging...even though the show left very obscure hints about Arya, Robb, Rickon and Jon...but I'd bet if you ask the general viewer, they'd say only Bran is able to. I think the show is going to spend money on CGI, they'd rather do it for dragons than direwolves. And early on, when they used real animals for them, cast and producers said the dogs they used are very hard to train. Richard Madden stated in an interview when Grey Wind was supposed to attack the Great Jon, the dog would not move, so they had to throw a stuffed one across the table. With Bran's return, Rickon's possible return, and whatever happens to Jon, I think we see more direwolves in season 6 but I suspect Summer will be the one who is seen the most.

Which will probably be entirely omitted from the show. I still think Bran will be the only Stark warg in the show universe.

The direwolves do not fit the definition of macguffin like, at all, that's a ridiculous notion. They're characters in their own right, they don't serve as some vague motivation for another character to do something, to progress the plot. Obviously they won't have a POV chapter dedicated to them, but they're present all the time, they serve as companions and protectors of the Stark children. They also have symbolic significance, they reflect the traits of their owners, to some extent. They're not macguffins. And neither are Dany's dragons.

Any idea who might join the main cast this year? Gemma Whelan and Jonathan Pryce are possibilities. I don't think Pilou Asbaek will be part of the main cast until S7.

Randyll was difficult to speculate because I'm not sure if he'll appear only at Horn Hill this season or come to KL or Oldtown.

Anyway @kairos, Here is what Tyrion's arc might look like. It's clearly unfinished though. This is why we need a trailer because I still have a load of questions. In Dany's absence, Tyrion, Varys, Missandei, Grey Worm try to rule Meereen. Tyrion and Varys walk the Meereenese walls where eventually former slaves and masters flee in the opposite direction. They eventually discover that the Sons of the Harpy have destroyed the granaries and they meet an emaciated woman with a starving child who pleads for help. Tyrion and Missandei discuss the political situation in the Meereenese gardens where she agrees to his and Varys's plan of bringing a Red Priestess from Volantis to satisfy the populace of Meereen who are now writing that "Mhysa is a Master" on the city walls. The Red Priestess Kinvara arrives in Meereen to meet with Tyrion and Varys in the Throne Room where they appear skeptical of her magic, but plead for help. She eventually agrees as she believes that Dany is "The One Who Was Promised." Despite, Tyrion attempting to improve the life of the citizens in Meereen, the Wise Masters of Yunkai take advantage of Dany being gone and send their Razdal mo Eraz revealing that they plan to declare war as the city is falling into more unrest. However, Tyrion decides to rationalize the grain supply to all citizens to the bemusement of the masters. When he hallucinates that Shae is among the Meereenese, he tries to feed all the citizens equally to eliminate the famine, but the Former Great Masters grow more furious as their supplies are now limited. Tyrion learns that Varys has business elsewhere, potentially opening the door for Dany's invasion of Westeros, and accompanies him to the port where they say their goodbyes. While Tyrion has gained the trust of the common people, the Harpies, the Yunkish, and the former Masters secretly plan to remove Dany's council. Tyrion and Missandei stand on the balcony of the pyramid to see that the Yunkish are outside the city walls planning to siege Meereen. Once they begin striking, Tyrion nearly loses control of the city and the Sons of the Harpy accidentally free Rhaegal and Viserion. When nearly everything seems lost, Dany and her khalasar arrive to end the siege and ride to the gates where demands that the Good and Wise Masters surrender. During the uproar, Daario is killed by one of the dragons. Dany meets with Tyrion where they decide on leaving Slaver's Bay behind as Varys and Jorah have already begun opening the door for her arrival in Westeros. Dany, Tyrion, Missandei, and Grey Worm meet with Razdal, Yezzan, and another master to negotiate for more ships that she will take back to Westeros along with the Meereenese fleet, but they refuse. Drogon flies overheard and burns the three masters and nearly all of Meereen. Dany, Tyrion, Missandei, then prepare to leave Slaver's Bay and sail for Westeros planning to land in Dorne. After, Dany takes enough supplies from Meereen to feed her entourage, the Dothraki, the Unsullied, and the former slaves and common people onto the ships, they set sail for Westeros and Dany is seen flying above on Drogon.

Sounds like a filler season for Tyrion (and Dany), but I'm ok with that as long as they wrap up that Essos storyline.
