You both have a very good point, and I can see that. I think they have done this with a few characters, and I think that ultimately it was a good move, because the modern TV audience is not as understanding of medieval points of view like Cat had as a lady of a medieval-like world as a fantasy-reading book audience is.
Basically, they showed a subconscious struggle that Cat had not only being conscious, but outwardly expressed to Talisa.

Oh, I definitely think it was added to sway the GA into liking Catelyn more too, because a lot did hate her. But to me it still felt fitting for her characterization. Book Cat admitted her mistakes, but had that been book canon, I can't see her going back to that memory very often. I think it would hurt her.
It does makes me wonder how Cat would view Jon now, as Cat. For protecting Sansa and taking back Winterfell.

Never posted here before. Luv Lady Cat. Fierce, raw, deep. Her life was arguably one of the worst on the show, and she was arguably one of the characters most deserving of happiness.

I was randomly browsing YouTube earlier and somehow I ended up watching the scene from Season 3, where Cat tells Talisa about Jon Snow. As always, I teared up a little bit ... then I read some of the comments, and they made me feel sick. One of the top rated comments was "She's still a worthless piece of shit". It's a fucking tragedy that so many people still want to categorize these characters in 'good' and 'evil', that they don't seem to understand the complex human nature that is reflected in the characters of ASoIaF and Game of Thrones. People do shitty and reprehensible things in real life too, they make mistakes, that doesn't make them evil. You literally have to have a Stoneheart to not be moved by that scene. It's just so ironic that no one gives a flying fuck that Cersei had all of Robert's bastards killed, that some of the most beloved characters on this show are mass murderers, but Catelyn being somewhat mean to Jon Snow is this unforgivable sin.

I will never understand the fandom disconnect with Catelyn at all. Cersei had INNOCENT children killed. Cersei killed her own husband. Jaime tries to kill an innocent child, Stannis allows his in laws to be burned, Joffrey and Ramsey are totally worthless, sadistic POS, Theon would have killed Bran and Rickon if he found them with Ramsey... we could go on with a list of people who have done MUCH, MUCH worse then Catelyn. Catelyn might have struggled with the belief that Ned was unfaithful to her (and a lie that Ned told his own wife that made things harder for her and JON in order to protect Jon) and people seem to forget in the custom of Westeros, it is not custom for the bastard child to be raised with his or her father and the father's wife. But Ned did it and Catelyn might not have loved the idea but she allowed it and Jon was raised in a good home, given the same advantages that Ned and Catelyn's true born children had. I know that Catelyn scene with Talisa had many complaints about it, but I liked it, it revealed a lot about Cat's mindset, her beliefs (being punished for violating her promise to the gods) and how much she loved Ned and would not wish death on a innocent child.
