Speaking of Slytherins, do you guys sometimes also wish Rowling had made them more morally-grey instead of straight-up evil/jackasses? I know that characters like Snape, Draco, Narcissa and Slughorn are more ambiguous and even did some decent things, but I wish there had been more. I would have really enjoyed it if Draco had become friends with at least one member of the trio (preferably Hermione) in one of the later books. That would have changed the whole story of the sixth novel, but I would have liked it.

What I wish is not necessarily that they were more morally ambiguous, but that there were more straight-up good guys in Slytherin. The only one was Snape, but even he doesn't count because while he was ultimately a good guy, he was still a prick/antagonist through pretty much the entire series. Slughorn I guess also counts as a good guy, but he was also shown to be pretty cowardly and all about self-preservation rather than the greater good. The trio had friends from all houses except Slytherin, and I think that was probably a mistake on Rowling's part because it is really what's responsible for most people associating Slytherin almost exclusively with evil. They were not all evil, and Slytherin produced many a good and great witch or wizard, but we never got to see that at all because Slytherins were viewed through the lens of Harry who only really communicated regularly with Draco and Severus, sharing a pretty mutual hatred for both. I think it would have been good if there were other evil witches or wizards from the other houses. The only one who fell into that category was Sirius, and that turned out to be a huge misunderstanding. Oh, I guess there was Peter Pettigrew. I forgot about him.

As long as you are no filthy mudbloods (or blood traitors, like those pathetic Weasleys) - you'll see that we're the nicest people. Seriously though, I don't think most of the Slytherins were actually that bad. I mean, Draco and his friends were bullies, sure, but they weren't really evil (except maybe Crabbe), they were just raised by people, who had fucked-up values an world views. And pretty much all the pure-blood wizard children, who were raised by parents like the Malfoys and share the same world views, end up in Slytherin, that's just how it works. Draco becoming friends with one of the main trio, especially Hermione, would have felt like fanfiction to me, I'm sorry ... I think the ending we got for Draco, a kind of mutual respect between him and the trio, but not friendship, is the best we could've hoped for, considering what all these characters have been through.

I like to think that the people from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were having there own great adventures while the series were going on... Also, why do they bother having Slytherin? It seems like all the kids there are arses. If the sorting hat sends you to Slytherin, it should be somewhat of a red flag...

By the way guys, if you haven't watched this, you should totally check it out: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL86C718AEE71C9DE9It's a trilogy of Harry Potter themed stage musicals, performed by a group called "Team Starkid". The music is great and the writing is fucking hilarious. It's pure fanfiction, but it manages to capture the spirit of the books extremely well, in many ways even better than the movies, I would say. The link I've posted is to "A Very Potter Sequel", which is the second part of the trilogy (the first is called "A Very Potter Musical" and the third "A Very Potter Senior Year). The second one is the best one by far, but you should totally watch them all, they're great fun. If you know Glee, you probably know who Darren Criss is, and he plays Harry in this. And in the third musical, Luna Lovegood is played by Evanna Lynch, who also played Luna in the movies. Team Starkid has done other truly awesome stuff as well, I can especially recommend "Twisted", which is a musical based on Disney's Aladdin, told from the perspective of Jafar - and also "The Trail to Oregon", which is based on some old video game, I think. All of these shows are great fun and definitely worth watching.

I can't comment on Harry Potter. It just marked my life so significantly, it was important not only as a series of books I loved, but also as something that made me who I am. It was also the series that made me realize that, no matter how much a live-action fandom can love a TV adaptation, the books will always have "something more". I mean, people who have not read the books just absolutely love the movies. Yet I can only watch the first, second, third, and the final two. Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince are just impossible to rewatch for me. Terrible adaptations, terrible. And they are the best books IMO. I am definitely in Ravenclaw, btw and my favorite characters would be Hermione, Luna, and McGonagall. Dolores Umbridge gets a mention for being my favourite antagonists, though. I like how she managed to be just as hatable as Voldemort, with much less tropes to her. I mean, evil lord who murders the protagonists' parents, who comes back from the dead, splits his soul, wears black and is a fascist dictator and hypocrite? Sure I'll hate that guy. Umbridge, on the other hand, is a teacher and power-hunger politician, who wears pink. One would think she has no chance against him, but on the fandom's eyes, I would say she is even more hated than Voldy or even Bellatrix. Amazing character, I just loved to hate this character throughout Order of the Phoenix. When she comes back in Deathly Hallows, my heart raced and I could not stop reading until they were done with her.

Umbridge was perfect. Sickly sweet granny with kittens on the first glance, sadistic bitch in truth. I still hate her more than Walder Frey.

Umbridge was perfect. Sickly sweet granny with kittens on the first glance, sadistic bitch in truth. I still hate her more than Walder Frey. Nice parallel there. I think they are the same type of villain. But I also prefer Umbridge as a villain, and hate her more. Even though Walder's impact on aSoIaF is huge, he just isn't a very present character. Umbridge managed to be everywhere during her time at Hogwarts (attacking Hedwig, trying to catch Sirius on the fire, expelling professors, capturing Dumbledore's Army, later becoming headmaster and attacking McGonagall on the evening...) I like it when Harry has that fake dream Voldemort puts in his head about Sirius being tortured, and he wants to ask someone for help but doesn't know who to turn to, because Umbridge has put everyone he trusts outside of Hogwarts (Dumbie, Hagrid and McGonagall). Up to this point I had not taken Umbridge's actions all that seriously, althought I hated her already, I used to see her more as mid-plot filler. But then I realized how heavily she impacted the fifth book's story. I think Rowling was a genius with this character's development.

I think the Goblet of Fire is a legitimately terrible film, but I love the Half Blood Prince. If nothing else, I think it's the most visually appealing of the films. Although the production design of PoA is pretty next level, the cinematography of HBP really elevates it. But then I'm a sucker for good cinematography I'm kind of indifferent towards OotP. Imelda Staunton was fabulous, though.

Harry Potter is my life. I'm currently rereading the series for about the millionth time and it still fills me with joy and sadness when I reach the end of Deathly Hallows. I can't tell you how many times I've cried at Dobby's death. It's really quite pathetic From the movies, this is easily my favourite track and I wish it had been reused in later movies OMG! Dobby's death! I was devastated, like tears in my eyes crying, it was such a heartbreaking scene. It's the nail in the coffin of everything that had gone wrong in that book. I need to start my re-read. By the way, I retook the test again and as usual I end up in Gryffindor. Last week I took another quiz and it said the character I was most like was Albus Dumbledore, which was kind of shocking.
