Funny thing is, Martin spent around 1900 words on this little baby. Add that to the other 15-20 entries/articles he has written on this topic between NAB and other places, that gives you some 30,000-40,000 words. That´s around 10% of a potential tWoW.
Ye know, I must correct myself: For years, I have called out the guy on his lazy writing practices. Truth is, he actually is prolific as hell. Just not on writing aSoIaF.

Just think of all the pages and pages he writes in private that no one sees (emails and discussions with editors, friends, etc) ... he is a prolific writer ... but he's going to take as long as he damn wants on that book. I just keep chanting my mantra that we waited longer for ADWD.

I don't want to sound cynical or unappreciative, because I love GRRM and the world he has created. But as a hobby writer myself, I feel like I make better progress with my texts than GRRM does with this book and he's a professional writer who doesn't have to study at university and work parttime like I do. It shouldn't be too difficult for a professional writer to produce 100k+ in words per year. Heck, I wrote 80k in 2 months. So yeah, I don't buy that "he's a slow writer"-excuse. He clearly lost interest in his own story and that's ok. You can't force these things. But just don't blame the tv show for surpassing the books, then.

I don't think he blamed the show producers anywhere for that, he just acknowledged it as inevitable -- right? I know he's taken exception to some of the characters they've killed off who are still living, and he can't really do that since he gave them permission and license to do so.

Maybe he didn't blame the tv show directly (some of his fans did, though, but that's not his fault), but he definitely had some very unrealistic ideas like +2 seasons for AFfC and ADwD or 10 seasons plus movies. I love him, but he clearly needed a reality check back then. Alas, I'll be perfectly happy if HBO gives me a somewhat satisfying ending to this story. I just have a lot of empathy for my friends who are bigger fans of the books than I am. I hope they get their book ending, but I don't believe in it anymore.

He is their bitch, not mine.

This is hilarious because after readingskimming the several 3k word long essays written by GRRM on NAB, I still had no fucking clue wtf the puppies were. Now I do

After one week of travel-related silence, another wall of text re HUGO/Puppy butthurt. grrm.livejournal.com/439207.htmlAnd he promises more. Re NAB entries, this is Full Metal Comfort Zone. At least, no surprises here. That's a 1,861 opportunity word cost to something that we'd all enjoy reading about.

This from you, the chief ally and enabler of Linda Antonsson ? Reality check, please ?

Speaking of Linda, and I know this is totally not the thread for it, but has anyone considered going to a tabloid with her bullshit? Or at least, a suitably low-morals news site/organisation that would care?

Even now that her name is on the cover of one of GRRM's books? Unfortunately, yep. Too aSoIaF-subgenre-specific. Ultimately just a geekfight the general public couldn´t give a shit about - so no clicks to be made. However, if Linda humped Martin´s brains out behind Parris´ back and Parris split her head with a Got-replica of a cleaver, we would have a totally different situation, now wouldn´t we ? I´m totally Team Parris on that one.

Well, if anybody have the right contacts for that one, why not try ? Nothing to lose, in any case.
