I'm sure he does fake the positivity sometimes, but it's not like anyone's holding a gun to his head. He could end his involvement with the show if he wanted to, couldn't he? He didn't sell his soul to HBO along with the rights to his main books, but he's not gonna cut off that cashflow.
I'm having flashbacks of the Harry Potter fandom here, wondering if this is these are the only books some of those weirdos have ever read. Because there's no other way to understand how people don't get that screen adaptations always make major changes. HP were children's books, so it's possible some of the movie detractors really hadn't read other books that had been translated to screen, but if that's true of ASoIaF geeks...man, idk. I've never read the Gone with the Wind novel or any production notes, but I've seen the movie, which should be enough for anybody to get what GRRM was saying there.

He sold his rights to the entire adaptation of this story, so GRRM owes D&D the finished story. He just can't walk away and is raking in a ton of cash and acclaim from this series. I think too many people are just oblivious to this notion, that GRRM and D&D actually get along and work on the story together. D&D work on the outline from GRRM notes (previously the completed books) and then send it over to GRRM for feedback. GRRM is involved in the show. The only reason why he didn't write an episode last and this season is because he wanted to focus on hammering out book 6. He'll write an episode in Season 7 Parts I (2017) and II (2018), if Winds is done, I'm pretty convinced on that.

I'd feel pretty bad for the guy if his prior commitments meant he couldn't have a hand in his own ending. Though, of course, is TWOW isn't out by then I won't pity him AT ALL.

^^^^^^^^ That's Sophie best picture looked IMO ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I think HBO is going to push the showrunners to produce a final full (80 ep) or half of a season (75 ep) in 2018. My gut feeling is we'll get this info after 6.1 premieres.
That extra year is huge for HBO, locking up subscribers like me who don't really care about the other shows. There will be hurdles to deal with (like locking up actors for 8th year) but nothing HBO can't handle. D&D won't go further than an 8th season and I don't blame them. They work 365 days as it is.
If Martin has until Spring of 2017 to hammer out the last set of episodes, that will give him plenty of time to finish Winds to be available to write an episode or the finale.

That one won't be out anytime soon. I'd say five years after TWOW is an optimistic estimate.

HBO got a , I guess, better viewing for GoT in Britain this season , the numbers were supposedly a record. No numbers for other foreign viewers. Broke piracy records again. Show buzz still reverberating. Those season 7 contracts intrigue me ... seems GoT is HBO's biggest hit, not clear they will have anything like it come 2018 , must be some mahogany row hoopla going ... even parent Time-Warner fretting on how to milk this, I think there will be a surprising development before season 6.

We all have issues with some of D&D's writing choices but it seems to irritate some fans beyond rationality that they and Cogsy are actually close to Martin and already know more of his plans than anyone. Like I hope Linda was seething with jealousy that they read Arya's Mercy chapter years ago but she and Elio (I believe?) only got their hands on Alayne I from Winds. IA with your s7 predictions. The final book volume(s) will never be done before the show is over but he wrote for s1-4 while he still had books to put out. On-topic.

Echo what some of us have said. AGOT is on NY Bestseller list again. GRRM is thankful for D&D... It is the return to the show to the airwaves that's responsible, of course, so thanks to HBO and David and Dan and Bryan and our amazing cast and directors... and also to Anne, and all the great folks at Bantam Spectra, who have kept all of the books in print and available for lo these long years. Long may we reign)grrm.livejournal.com/

Long may we reign)grrm.livejournal.com/As he should be. The show is bringing new readers to his books. I know, for me, I never heard of them until I started seeing ads for the show with Sean Bean several months before it debuted. He might privately take issue with whatever changes they've made but I don't think he's sitting out from SDCC this year because he didn't like the season, I think he wants to finish the 6th book. I do think he gets on well D&D and those involved with production and he's said many times "the show is the show and the books are the books." Nerd HQ has released their schedule so far for their panels. I am hoping some of the GoT cast at SDCC participate in one.

Apparently they get the scripts today. (Assuming this interview was yesterday since it was just uploaded this morning)
But Liam avoiding eye contact with the producers in order for Davos to live is a good idea. lol

Is there a way to watch ComicCon panels in decent quality or is it just the ones recorded by fans and uploaded on youtube?

Is there a way to watch ComicCon panels in decent quality or is it just the ones recorded by fans and uploaded on youtube? I don't think the GoT panel is being live streamed this year. Usually Nerdist or IGN streams, but I don't see it listed under either site. I could be wrong, but I can't find anything on it.

Isn't there a live stream of the GOT panel every year? I remember watching their panels more than once.

I'm a bit concerned we won't get a casting video this time considering how early the Con is in the year. Not JB concerned just i'm fucking impatient concerned.

Is there a way to watch ComicCon panels in decent quality or is it just the ones recorded by fans and uploaded on youtube? Shakey hand cams are the pinicle of comicon broadcasting. Unless they have a major piece of news to release they likely wont stream. So probably no casting... Also, has it started yet?
