I've basically spent my entire evening watching the reaction videos to Daznak on YT (I cannot bring myself to look at the Shireen stuff) and some are amazing. I'll make a thread later compiling the best ones! But good lord, there are some people who have a naturally blank/inexpressive face and I just want to know WHY they film their reactions because their expressions don't change no matter what happens.

I love watching live reactions. I think those are the best indicators of how impactful a scene was, before people can start analyzing it to death.
It's not my favorite episode 9, but it's worthy of being one.

Funny. I actually think this is the worst episode.

...and for me this is easily the worst episode of the season and probably the worst episode since 3x07 The Bear and the Maiden Fair. Which is not the same as saying it's a bad episode. It's not. Just not as good as the others.

Ranking the 9th episodes is really tough for me. They're all so good! I'd have to go back to see what I rated the others. I haven't been let down by any of them yet though.

Opinions on episode 9 are always so mixed, so it's pretty fun to discuss them.
For me, it's probably:
1. The Watchers on the Wall 2. Blackwater 3. The Dance of Dragons 4. The Rains of Castamere 5. Baelor

I guess if I had to rank them:
1. The Watchers on the Wall 2. Baelor 3. The Rains of Castamere 4. The Dance of Dragons 5. Blackwater
Now, all of these would be ranked 9 or 10, so none of these were 'bad' episodes in the slightest. Just how I feel about them.

As to strength: 1. Blackwater 2.09 2. The Watchers on the Wall 4.09 3. The Rains of Castamere 3.09 4. The Dance of Dragons 5.09 5. Baelor 1.09 Now, if Hardhome had been the 9th episode, season 5 would have gone to the top of the ranks.

Here's Ozzy Man's Review - and as always, spot on points out the flaws, weaknesses, strengths and themes.
The theme he got was duty vs. desire for all of the characters. And Stannis goes on the cunt pile.
A very good point he had about Stannis we all may have missed ... Who the fuck in Westeros is going to follow a king who burns his daughter?! There was a king who burnt his subjects for fun (Dany's Dad) hmmm... see where that went?
Stannis is DONE.

Finally got time tonight to read your great review sati. It deserved time to absorb and reflect after I'd had time to calm down. I'm still upset about the episode overall but trying to see it as a whole and not just the Shireen burning which has unfortunately drowned out pretty much everything else and made the final scenes with Drogon and Dany flying feel cheapened somehow. I especially liked your line: "Drogon looks at her and doesn't hurt her. BECAUSE EVEN DROGON KNOWS YOU DON'T BURN YOUR OWN FUCKING FAMILY."Thank you!

Honestly if I was in Stannis' army I'd renounce him right there and haul ass out of the camp. If he burns her, he is just ruthless - how can you trust a man who can have anyone burnt?
Remember Ned's words to Robert - you're no better than the Mad King? And that was about assassinating pregnant woman with poison which is nowhere near as awful as killing your own child by burning her alive

That's exactly the point Ozzy Man made in his video review I linked. Who the fuck is going to follow a king who burns his own daughter ffs!? Not even the horrific shit Ramsay's pulled can really top that, can it? This now puts Stannis in the same league as Joffrey and King Arys ... the people are not going to follow a king like that - how can they ever think this is going to work out?
