They billed this as having distressing scenes. They only do that when something torture or super gore related happens....

FU, Stannis, you die! Even Selyse relented. The look on Mel's face - I do wonder how she would take it if someone decided to burn her.
It's really hard to write about this episode with the godawful Shireen sacrifice juxtaposed to the pretty fantastic Drogon scene. But maybe because I knew what was coming, I wasn't as affected by any of it as I'd thought I would be. Was a wee bit disappointed, tbh. I think it's like sneaking into the boxes and finding out exactly what you're getting for Christmas before Christmas morning even arrives.

Generally a good episode but man, Stannis, you've become the monsters you want to fight. Also, Dany flying was awesome althou I resent there was no whip.

Well.
I always said that Stannis would go that far but saying it and seeing it are two different things. I'm crushed. I'd hoped against hope that Shireen would make it somehow. And she was so wonderful until she realized what was happening! Ugh.
And so much happened with the Pit scene. So what can we speculate for the books? Hizdar is a dead man walking (kind of figured that already), Jorah seems to weasel his way back into Dany's camp (at least for a while), it's important for a Martell to be on the council and Stannis will definitely win the battle. But he's lost the war and I doubt Martin will ever let him be king. Not even for a few days.
Great episode!

Great episode from start to finish. Even Dorne was great this episode, and I thought it was nearly irredeemable...I knew they just needed more Doran XD
I think they handled Shireen's sacrifice well. Stannis was gutted and heartbroken and terrible. I cried, and I haven't cried since season 2 infanticide scene.
The end scene...I'm absolutely stunned. Just stunned. It. Was. Amazing.
I have to say, I loved this episode.

Did you guys watch the Inside the Episode bit? D&D spoke about how when George told them this happened they were horrified and excited. Anyhow, it's confirmed that something similar to this is happening in the books. Although most of us guessed poor Shireen was leaving this world to soon.

I'm wondering how it plays it in the books. Does Stannis sacrifice Shireen when he returns to the Wall? Does Melisandre do it on her own? And I think that this will be what turns Davos away from Stannis.
