I looked around and didn't see this posted elsewhere, so forgive me if it's always been discussed. GRRM sat down with Hibberd to talk about five characters from his books he wished were on the show: 1) Strong Belwas 2) Jeyne Poole 3) Willas Tyrell 4) Garlan Tyrell 5) Lady Stoneheart I'm surprised he didn't pick Wyman Manderly.

It's odd that there aren't any good characters on that list. Manderly should be there.

I mean, Willas Tyrell? Seriously? Not Cortnay Penrose, or Maege Mormont, or any of the other colourful minor characters? He picks the guy that hasn't even appeared yet

All of those people he picked probably have something huge to do in the books. Though I'm smh at the Tyrell brothers. One of them must be Azor Ahai.

Bro, Strong Belwas is the Jar Jar Binks of ASOIAF. Um...no. Loads of people love Strong Belwas. I've never met anyone that even remotely likes JJB. He's the comic relief in many of Dany's chapters, in the same vein as Tormund in Jon's.

I've met loads of people that like Jar Jar Binks. They were also wrong. Belwas is a cartoon.

I've met loads of people that like Jar Jar Binks. They were also wrong. Belwas is a cartoon. This is a series that seriously needs comic relief, but the show is ten times better at it. Belwas was funny but expendable. The scenes of Sam and Jon horsing around in season 1 were gold because they don't take you out the moment. Shireen and Davos are another example. For whatever reason, GRRM's version lacks humor unless it's over the top or far too subtle.

GRRM writes some very funny characters, Tyrion, Jaime, Edd, even Stannis has some really funny lines.

I disagree about Tyrion. He never seems funny in the books. He's deeply cynical and later on tragic and mopey. Edd is over the top to me, and I never laugh at Stannis. We can agree to disagree on this.
