Hopefully this doesn't bring the mood down, but I just want to thank Admin again for giving us a place to be. I just ventured over to the smoldering ruins and saw this: "What I dsliked about the episode is that people liked it. I want the show to fail, damnit". I will never return there.

I tweeted Sue from WOTW to see if she knew anything about Varamyr, if she answers I'll report back here. She said she didn't know anything.

I'm never going back there again either. I cannot believe the level of immaturity people there have stooped to lately. The show writers, actors, directors, special effects teams, costume designers ... so many hundreds of people have poured their heart and soul into making that episode as epic as it was and the best the haters can come up with is that they are mad it was so great because they want the show to fail?! It really is heartbreaking sometimes how horrible people can be on the internet.

IGN gave it a perfect 10. This episode hit it out of the park. Now to see how the next two episode compare.

It felt like a season finale episode it was that epic and I'm just so relieved we still have TWO more episodes after that insane awesomeness - it makes the enjoyment even greater. So many times an epic finale has got me excited like that and then I go "Oh ... wait.... wah wah waaaah, that was the end of the season!" And then I cry.

They are crying hard tears because the show is overtaking the books and becoming canon, which makes their little fanhouse of cards fall apart so brutally. *le sigh*. Coping is such a tough thing...

About the NK.....wasn't he a Stark at one time, before he took a blue-eyed bride? That long, intense locked stare between NK and Jon - holy shit. I 1/2 expected him to just 'will' Jon to jump out of the boat and swim to him. (Not really, but - yeah, really). It was definitely a very meaningful look between the two of them. The Night's King looked amazing btw - best looking of the white walkers and I think they made them a little 'prettier' this season or is it just me? I just remember the crusty one everyone ragged on so much being a disappointment because I hadn't wanted them to look like popsicle corpses. The ones they showed tonight were much more badass looking so I think they amped them up a bit and the Night's King was GORGEOUS special effects and makeup work!

I just noticed that Dany added the Targaryens to the spokes on a wheel speech. Interesting... Yes it is, and on the rewatch I noticed that Tyrion actually gave Dany a little wink - twice - just before the wheel speech. Kinda bold and risky, I'm thinking.

Basil - You have a good point about how this episode really just shat all over the rest and makes the Dorne stuff look even more ridiculous. If they can pull off fight scenes like that, what the fuck happened with the watergardens? I mean, I realize they were using the real actors - who are not stunt fighters, and that it's far easier to edit / slice films where you can utilize a lot of computer animated help (they did a lot of the same tricks Lord of the rings did with the massive orc battles if I remember correctly) ... but still, it just looked and felt so much more realistic and believable even though it was entirely fantasy and by far some of the most 'magical' of the fantasy they've done for the show to date aside from the dragon CGI.

but why didn't they call her "Cat", like in the books? I have always liked the fact that Arya becomes Cat and Sansa becomes Alayne (Cat+Alayne, Catelyn). Oh, well. It was still quite a good scene. \ Exactly that, they didn't want to overlap two people having the name Cat. especially when hype is coming.

I'm pretty sure they put 80% of their effort into these three episodes and not the first seven.

It's probably as simple as they had very limited time to shoot the Dorne scene because of the location (they needed special permission to film and it was a public area that needed to be shut down while it happened). The Hardhome set was something they made themselves in the middle of Northern Ireland and they took 3 weeks to film the whole sequence which is pretty much unheard of for a TV show. I think in the future, when they're scouting locations, they'll have to balance a little more the aesthetics that they want with the location limitations that come along with it. They must have thought that they could get a strong enough fight scene even within the very small time frame they were allowed but it was tough choreography with actors who weren't used to doing stunts. So lesson learned, hopefully.

I'm usually quite willing to overlook some of the mistakes they've made over the years - but tonight's episode was in such glaring contrast, it's hard not to wonder if they're the same show sometimes! I know they have it in them to do great work, we're reminded each season with great things like the epic battle of blackwater, the wildling battle at the wall and now this insane event at Hardhome which pretty much tops them all in my book. The greatness outweighs the bad scenes by far.

I wonder how long it'll be until we see the WW's/Wights again?
