Haha yeah that comes through sometimes and it's hilarious. And yeah it's associated with Cider-making country and farmland so they get stuck with a bit of stereotype on that front.

BTW what's the British consensus about NCW's accent on the show?

Is that a country accent? It still sounds more refined than most of the southern accents I hear in the States. The West Country accent was actually pretty important in the development of American accents. Other than the Irish accents that came over there it's one of the main reasons you all pronounce the Rs in words. Funnily enough Southern accents derive from upper class British accents btw.

BTW what's the British consensus about NCW's accent on the show? Hints of his Danish are ever-present but again, it's an accent that never bothers me at all. It's mainly the way his words fall together which is used to a more guttural Danish thing, if that makes sense.

I just watched Dr. Strangelove the other night. His American accent was so good, I actually just had to look him up on IMDB to make sure he was English.

The German accent was cartoonish, but dammit, he was so funny in that movie, along with George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden.

And btw the President in the movie is called Merkin Muffley.
And yeah. George C. Scott was so good. Particularly here.

But now that I'm used to it I just view it as part of Jaime's charm and I quite like it He's improved a great deal in his accent since s1. I can still tell he's northern European but somehow, even though English is his second language, he seems to have a more consistent accent than Dinklage does in the show. That may be because English is taught in an English accent in school in most of Europe whereas Dinklage of course learned it in an American accent. So NCW really just had to improve that accent he'd already been taught how to speak the language in, where Dinklage had to try and redo his entire way of speaking the language for the show.

Bristol is on the edge of West Country (literally) (EDIT: It actually isn't, geography fail lmao) so I think the accents there are generally more diverse than they are in other places. Hannah Murray is also from Bristol, but she never had a West Country accent, even when she was on Skins which was her first acting gig and was actually set in Bristol. Iirc half the cast of Skins were from Bristol, but the only one I really remember having the accent was Mitch Hewer Poor Maxxie For real West Country... think Hagrid.

Dinklage's accent is awful. Like, really really bad. I'm no expert on accents but when my husband and kids can do a better English accent then Peter Dinklage it tells me his accent is awful. However, his acting makes up for it.

I just choose to believe that the Lannisters were sent to a Danish American tutor we've not been told about, located somewhere over near Asshai.

Kit, Maisie, Sophie, and Alfie were all incredible this season and deserve recognition too, but they'll have time for awards. They're sooo young. I really don't think Emilia should have been recognized this season either, as much as I adore her. She was good, but not better than any of these four or a lot of older actors.
