This is shaping up to be a sneaky-awesome setpiece. It sounds like they're going all out but not building it up so that the audience isn't prepared for the scope of the carnage. Get significantly hyped. www.ew.com/article/2015/05/31/game-thrones-hardhomeOne of the biggest action scenes in Game of Thrones history is tonight. But unlike the climactic Thrones battles in previous years, this sequence arrives almost entirely without any build up. Last year’s war for Castle Black and the second season’s Battle of the Blackwater were clashes that characters saw coming well in advance. Without giving away any details about what happens during tonight’s eighth episode, Sunday’s “Hardhome” has a sequence that will rank among the show’s most spectcular moments.
“I think [HBO] has realized that to keep people engaged with this show that the big set pieces each year have to be bigger than the ones before,” Harington said. “[The Battle of Castle Black in] episode 9 last year was the hardest thing I’ve done. This was twice as hard as that. It was exhausting.” They're definitely being more quiet about it then WotW.

That means he's got even more fight scenes to work through ... poor baby (rubs curly hair) I am glad this has gone under the radar. It's been overshadowed by the Sansa and Cersei drama and that's actually quite fitting if you think about it. The southern lords/houses have no idea just how much of a threat the white walkers are up to this point and have dismissed all warnings from Mormont (previous to his death) and I have a feeling they're going to continue to dismiss warnings from Jon Snow as well. Stannis is the only one who takes it seriously so lets hope after he sacks Winterfell, someone listens down south.

Mother's Mole is the one who leads the Wildlings to Hardhome, so it's a possibility. Wasn't Val kind of glamorous in the books? Karsi seems a bit more rough around the edges, like Ygritte. I could see this "Karsi" character being a mesh of Val and Mother Mole in a grittier Ygritte kind of way. I like it. Especially if she's got a prophecy for Jon and the wildlings in any way. I never understood how slavers got all the way up there to take half the wildlings that didn't get killed by the white walkers from the books though. It was vague. I'm guessing on the show it will be Jon and his boats that are her vision.

I love and appreciate all the different things that GoT/ASOIAF showcases, but I also love me some large-scale battle scenes. I'm really glad they decided to go all out for this one and if they wanted it to sneak up on viewers instead of building it up for a number of episodes, I think that's a cool choice too.

Envie, I do think she'll probably be a type of Val. She is a leader of wildlings and participates in negotiations apparently. That is not so quite so far off from what Val was after all, granted the title of princess was given by the crows and Stannis's people. But it was she that convinced Tormund to come and broker a deal with Jon Snow in the books. Interesting you mentioned Mother Mole. I'm not sure how much I remember of her. I thought the old lady was more of a seer, but I can't be sure. We will have to wait and see what Karsi's magical attributes are. If any. Mother Mole was a wildling prophet of sorts, like Maggy the Frog witch-type character. She's actually the one who convinced the wildlings to go to Hardhome in the first place because she had a vision of ships carrying them across the narrow sea ... which ended up being slaver ships. Yes, I remembered Jon saying something like that. I just wasn't sure if we have more on her, so I went looking at Dance for Mother Mole ( ) I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to some things, as you see Visions are super tricky in Martin's world. Mel can't interpret them right either and she's supposed to be at it for a while with powers growing more when closer to the Wall.

Yeah, they don't "do visions" on-screen either because it's tricky and because visions are supposed to be loosely interpreted by the reader/audience which is easier to convey in a book via text than onscreen. Mel's visions are often wrong as we well know, so I'm guessing Mother Mole's vision could be interpreted entirely differently. I just wonder if she'll say they saw a vision of going across the sea. I remember in the book I used to think "They're going to become Dany's army!" in some weird way haha.

Birgitte Hjort Sørensen has a really beautiful but distictive face! She looks good as a wildling, although I don't hope they give her Val's characterization, I didn't like very much her in the books.

I didn't like Val either, she had a strangely loyal following on Westeros. From season 2 on, every time an actress was cast people would speculate that it must be Val. I would always argue that she'd probably be cut as she doesn't actually do much in the books, and would get so much shit for that. "But she went out and retrieved Tormund, that's quite a feat!" they'd say, as if that was something that couldn't easily be written around. I quickly realized they were just convincing themselves that their Jon + Val fanfic might actually come true.

Yeah, the Westerosi obsession with Val is bizarre. And I find the notion of her being Jon's Queen quite hilarious (Watch it happen now)

Jon denied her too, but they could work it out if she resurrects him.

This is really the only realistic option left for Jon.

^ That's a beautiful picture, actually. Is it really an EW cover?

I don't think it's a cover, but it's part of a photoshoot they did a few years ago.

Targaryens do like to keep it in the family! (Cousin is still better than sister!) Also, the more I think about it, the more I'm glad they dropped Val anyways. I think she was a good antagonism in the books but they've got enough of that at the wall from the other wildlings, no need for Val hating Shireen, she'd for sure give her to Mel.
