Watched the promo again a couple of times trying to pick up details ...
What's everyone's speculation on how Hardhome is going to play out? I have absolutely no idea what's going on there other than it looks like they're trying to fake us into thinking Jon's in danger of being killed by the wildlings again.
Edit: They make it pretty clear from the dialogue the wildlings aren't going to make peace - so what then? Same scenario as book?
Edit2: And by same scenario, I mean will they just leave them to die with combined Cotter Pyke / ships and Jon expedition (unresolved)? Will Jon just abandon the mission or do you think the wildlings will change their minds?

I reckon they'll be a lot of arguing, then the White Walkers will turn up and kill most of the Wildlings, the surviving Wildlings and NW will head for the boats and escape.

Ahh so y'all expecting a big White Walker scene! I hope they do a good job of that as I know there's been mixed reviews and opinion on how they made the Night's King and White Walkers look in the past. I guess I should have guessed that was coming when Sam gave Jon the dragonglass - that was a pretty big giveaway but the promo focuses on the wildlings being aggressive so I guess that's just to try and cover up the real threat and not spoil it. I do like cosca's idea they'll escape with some of the wildlings who survive.

We only see them like once a year, so I'm most anticipating their arrival again. It's nice to break away from all the human fighting and plotting and scheming and see some more fantastical stuff.

So do we think it'll just be arguing or actual infighting like NW-Wildlings vs HH-Wildlings vs WW?

So do we think it'll just be arguing or actual infighting like NW-Wildlings vs HH-Wildlings vs WW? Definitely fighting of some kind from those possibilities you mention there if you ask me. It's not only the pre-season various vids about the S5 production who showed some images of Hardhome fighting but that dragonglass needs to be used somehow. I wonder who's getting out alive. Edd? Tormund? I think Jon is pretty safe.

Edit2: And by same scenario, I mean will they just leave them to die with combined Cotter Pyke / ships and Jon expedition (unresolved)? Will Jon just abandon the mission or do you think the wildlings will change their minds? Every time the Wildlings negotiate with Jon, some third party shows up and slaughters them. It seems to me that the Hardhome expedition must be somewhat successful in the show, since Jon has to survive it and still look competent. If Jon returns to the Wall with his tail between his legs, he'll be kind of pathetic and all the Wildlings will presumably die north of the Wall. The books gave Jon other victories to offset the defeat at Hardhome, and the books had other opportunities for Wildlings to get south of the Wall. But Hardhome is Jon's one big decision in the show and the only chance for the Wildlings to survive as a people. So Jon must manage to get a bunch (but far from all) of the Wildlings on the boats. It also seems important that Jon feels pretty confident going into the finale, and also that there be lots of Wildlings at the Wall at that point. It would be interesting to get a sense of the White Walker's agenda from Hardhome. The books had this sense that the White Walkers had been herding the Wildings to the Wall, and the show hasn't really expressed that. But the show gave the White Walkers corpse art and a baby ceremony; the show has definitely portrayed them as intelligent beings acting with some kind of purpose. It would be great to start to understand that purpose and to set up a sense of dread that the White Walkers are a definite threat to Westeros. The Battle at Castle Black did a lot of work in setting up the heavy northern focus of season 5. The Hardhome sequence hopefully will do the much-needed work to push the White Walkers to the front of the story. And once the White Walkers are a big deal in the show, Bran will work so much better as a part of the show narrative.

I'm glad a lot of you think Tormund is going to survive or that it's been semi-confirmed through all these weird internet spoilers out there! "The Internet is Dark and full of Spoilers" as the meme goes I guess!janicia you make a good point that Jon going back to the wall in retreat is just going to make him look like an even more terrible leader than many already think he is at this point. As Stannis says, the only way is forward at this point. There is no going back. I'm curious how the White Walkers slaughtering wildlings at Hardhome is going to make any difference to anyone other than those at the wall and Stannis. Stannis is the only one who really seems to actually take it seriously since he's there and everyone else is oblivious and wrapped up in their own drama.

Well, with Varys being immersed, the Small Council scattered, how will they now? Like you said, everyone is stuck with their immediate problems, and winter only seems to be a threat in having decent food provisions.

I agree that none of the characters south of Stannis will care about Hardhome. But Hardhome will hopefully give the audience a reason to care about the White Walkers. My stupid guess is that Westerosi will start paying attention to the White Walkers when they overrun Winterfell in season 6. And then there will be some kind of convergence at the Twins to try to limit the White Walkers to the north maybe? Assuming that Sam does go to Oldtown, he'll be leaving with Hardhome fresh on his mind. So the maesters might get more excited about the White Walkers in the show than they did in the books. Suppose we'll see Salladhor this season? I can't imagine him being thrilled that Stannis is sending his ships to Hardhome.

I wonder if we'll get any surprises regarding the storylines featured in the episode, other than the ones mentioned in the summary and shown in the promo. Probably not really...

Yeah, KL, The Wall, Winterfell, Meereen, Braavos, and Hardhome are all in. Team Dragonstone will probably skip this episode and I'm not sure about Dorne. I feel like the scene with Ellaria kneeling to Doran could be in, but it wouldn't surprise me if they saved that for 509.

Yeah, but isn't Hardhome about 18 minutes. Dividing 42 minutes amongst the other 6 locations seems a bit difficult, but I guess it depends how much screen time each one gets. I really only expect The Wall to have the one scene with Sam and Olly from the promo.

I really only expect The Wall to have the one scene with Sam and Olly from the promo. I think the Arya segment will be pretty long (as all of her appearances have been so far this year). The WF material, since we know we're getting two scenes there at least, will likely have a decent chunk of screentime too. I don't expect much more than five minutes in KL and in Meereen though and would be surprised if we were in CB for more than three minutes.
So it's possible that another storyline COULD appear (and Dorne would seem the best-suited for that) but yeah, I guess it's most likely that we're getting exactly what we're expecting to out of this ep.
