^Yeah, that kennel scene can't be praised enough really. The little details in his performance, his lip trembling, him hiding his mutilated hands after she said "Theon". It was perfect. And Sophie's reaction shot game is top-notch too. Also I should mention Stella McCusker's WF serving lady. She brings across a lot of warmth with very little to do or say, which takes a lot of screen presence to pull off right. Oh yeah she is very good! The guy who was in the scene with Bri was good too.

Once again Emilia hammers her lines when she speaks Valyrian. What the hell goes on? I don't think she dubs those , we have seen her rehearsing Valyrian. She has a different projection of voice when speaking the Mother Tongue. She seldom seems to do that when speaking 'Common Tongue'. It is very bizarre She is so good when speaking Valyrian and then she gets back into her weird emotionless regal queen mode.

Let me fangirl over Stephen doing these subtle funny things so well: His shock over Sam reminded me of his hysterical outrage here:

I've always thought this same exact thing and I've seen others mention it so it's worth repeating. Emilia puts a ton of emotion into her acting when she speaks Valyrian but when she speaks common tongue, it seems monotone and sometimes flat. I wonder if they're having her do that on purpose to portray some sort of "Mother-tongue" difference in her cultural identity and heritage? It's weird but I could listen to her speak Valyrian all day long but when she gives the "They can live in the new world or die in their old one" I always cringe.

I sometimes get the feeling the quirkiness of Stephen Dillane is definitely what makes Stannis so much more likeable on the show!

I definitely agree. And the serving lady is also great.

So many - Personally, I think Alfie Allen is brilliant. Every now and then I think of his father playing the Sheriff of Nottingham on Robin Hood and just think he must be so very proud of his son whom, I think, deserves an Emmy for his work as Reek. But Stephen Dillane, of course; Peter Dinklage, as always (and glad his witty sarcasm is back), and - I'm a broken record here - I have fallen in love with the actress who plays Fat Walda. Such perfect facial expressions.

This one is hard. I'll still give it to Alfie, he has been so consistent throughout the 5 seasons. Good stuff.

Great new avatar and signature gifs Thanks ! I had to go deep into the dark corners of Tumblr where the Thramsay shippers reside to get some good gifs and I still haven't found exactly what I was looking for. I suck at making gifs and the good videos I found on YouTube were kinda blocked for that usage :-S

Probably Iwan Rheon, The Winterfell scenes were hit and miss but his acting was on point

It's hard to pick when there were so many strong performances tonight. I'll go with Sophie and Alfie as the strongest, but McElhatton, Glenn, and Dinklage are right up there too.

You know among the fanish on these forums a lot of people dis Emilia , but I don't hear it from the unsullied nor have seen it from media critics ( I know D&D don't). Emilia was also good in season 3, besides the Valyrian she was also good and kind of weird in the Episode Second Sons. But she seems inconsistent to me , fine all the way in season 1, not so good in season 2, fine to ok in seasons 3,4, and so far. Several have noted that for some strange reason due to D&D ? She directed and maybe rehearsed badly. She doesn't still have the acting chops and in person see comes across as a really nice person. I noticed in the making of Cogman coaching her to show her inner 'cat', something like that, I don't know what that was about. Curious to see her as Sara Connor. (I am against Dany doing a Targ crackers-jig, since her father and brother both went that way.)

I agree, season 1 she was good but season 2 and 4 where her worst, although like you said I wonder if a lot of her inconsistency has to do with the way they direct her. The whole regal queen bit is just so off, she just seems disingenuous. When she's being "real" she comes across so much better. Last week when she was talking to Barristan, she was great. I participate sometimes in a show-only board and they adore her there. I posted yesterday that I wasn't happy about her arc this week and almost every single person disagreed with me, they thought it was great and that she was great. I honestly can't remember the last time they criticized her acting. As for the Targ madness, I don't see it at all. We are in her head, we know she's not mad, she's actually a very thoughtful person and except for ADWD she has always been a very observant person. The role of the Mad Queen is being reserved for Cersei both in the books and the show.

I imagine a ton of the show's dialogue is dubbed in in post-production actually. Not the bits in the show's made-up languages exclusively of course, probably out-door scenes by and large where it's hard to get crisp audio of the actors speaking. But it is very common practise to rely heavily on looping for movies and television, so it'd be pretty hard to discern which scenes' dialogue was recorded on the day or months later in a studio and whether or not that was to the benefit of the scenes' line readings or to their detriment.

It's true, Maisie spoke once of doing ADR (automated dialogue replacement), I am sure that is standard operational. I don't think Emilia uses a 'voice double' since David Peterson has noted all the actors do their Valyrian lines and he has noted that Emilia does good but not as perfect as a few others.

I thought Sophie Turner, Iwan Rheon, Michael McElhatton, and Alfie Allen were the best. Agreed! Winterfell just has the best actors, every of them! They were all perfect in this episode, Alfie Allen broke completely my heart, I'm always saying he's for me the best actor (I mean, he's no "+ 50 veteran actor" with suuuper much experience, and Theon is one of the most complex characters, and he's always nailing every scene, he nailed it as cocky ward of Eddard Stark, arrogant returned heir to Pyke, as troubled, disillusioned Price of Winterfell, and as broken, destroyed Reek), Sophie was brilliant, too! I always love Iwan Rheon in anything, he's an excellent actor, and Michael McElhatton - I don't think I have to explain this, he's just pure perfection! I wanted to write much more and fangirl a bit more, but it's here very late and I'm extreme tired, so that has to wait till tomorrow.
