Also if we're counting both Avatar series, I've probably only seen about 3 anime series in my life, so my contribution to this thread will be very limited  Watch Cowboy Bebop, my dude. I'd rank it not only as a great anime seires, but one of the best shows ever made. |

Lots and lots of good ones Death Note Code Geass Psycho Pass (first season only) Series;Gate Monster Legend of the Galactic Heroes Ghost in the Shell Fate/Zero There are plenty of more, but these are the anime I think you will definitely love. |

Attack on Titan's new op is actually fantastic. It's a reflection on the characters and their stories as opposed to the over the top kill all titans openings of previous series. It shows how far the characters have come and builds on the revelations of the last series, as well as some somewhat spoilery foreshadowing from the manga. Sufice to say, this arc doesn't really have many titans. Also: KENNNNNNNNNY!!! |

Finally get to read Vinland Saga manga which everyone has been raving. Damn, I didn't know it's gonna be that great of a manga like Berserk. One of the best character developments I seen in a long time. I know this is the anime thread, but there is no difference in posting manga here anyway, and plus there's gonna be an anime for Vinland Saga by the studio that done Attack on Titan!  |

Why is it that whenever a successful show gets a sequel, there's always some contingent of fans who will insist that the sequel is the worst show they've ever seen and it shots on the original? There's such a hilariously frustrating double standard when that kind of thing gets discussed. Like sometimes I just wonder if I'm even watching the same show, because criticism is one thing, but some of the complaints are just...wrong. I mean I try not to be judgemental, but I really wonder how much of the blind praise for the first show and criticism of the second is based on nostalgia.
Also it just occurred to me this rant is incredibly vague. Surprise surprise: I'm still talking about Avatar. I don't know where this obsession has come from. Over the last 2-3 months I've binged both series twice and now I've moved on to reading comments and opinions from back when the shows were airing. I've even been watching reaction videos (which I don't think I've ever really done), purely as an excuse to watch both shows again. Send help.

Since Attack on Titan season 3 is streaming and everyone is talking about it, I decided to catch up and watch my blurays of season 2 which have been sitting on my shelf for too long. I open it up and pop in the first disk and the show opens with a very confusing fight scene where I don't really know what's going on, and a shocking ending before the credits start. Cool, I think, they're doing a flash forward and will catch me up right after the credits. But they don't, they just carry on with scenes and characters I'm not understanding. It also says this is episode 33 but I'm pretty sure season one ended somewhere in the 20s, but it's been so long that I can't remember. I double check my boxset and confirm that I grabbed disk one:  Yep everything seems to check out there... wait. Wait a second.. is that?  Oh FUCK, there's another disk hiding behind this advertisement.  You gotta be kidding me. So due to my lack of attention, I shot myself forward 9 episodes and spoiled myself that: Reiner and Bertholdt were the secret titans that breached the wall way back in season one. And they've also defeated Eren and taken him away to an uncertain fate. So yeah I played myself, and I can't even be mad at anybody but myself.  |

He's not in it much IIRC, and I wouldn't classify him as a main character, though I first watched it a few years ago so maybe my memory is somewhat wrong. I'm rewatching at the moment, so it's on my mind.

Here's the character we're talking about:  That is apparently a boy.  You'd think the reveal that the character is male would make anime fans self-reflect and realize how strange it is that they fetishize female anime characters to such outrageous extents... but NO. Instead they doubled down and created the trap meme where they came up with justifications for being attracted to androgynous anime characters.   But I've heard good things about the show, so I'll probably check it out someday, I just think that detail is an interesting quirk of anime fans. |
