Social media reactions to Solo are... Real fucking positive so far! I won't read any real reviews or anything, but it's good to see that people really liked it. I am so hyped.

Boba Fett movie in the works, to be written and directed by James Mangold (who did Logan)
Pls no. Is this my Solo? Is the way I feel about this movie (and this character) the way every one else feels about Solo? If so I finally understand.

I think Disney is going to pound this franchise into the ground. They say an Obi-Wan movie is in the works, Stephen Daldry is their director of choice but they have no script yet. Supposedly when Josh Trank was on board with Star Wars a couple of years ago, Boba Fett was going to be his movie. The reviews for Solo have been "ehhh". Needless to say, I am sure I will be dragged to it seeing it, so I am trying to keep an open mind and accept it for what it is. Considering the husband is going with me to see Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees in concert, I will suck it up and see Solo like the good wife and person I am (insert hysterical laughter from the crowd).

I mean it's not as if Star Wars was getting glowing reviews before the buyout was it? I think atm they need to calm down with all the announcements and take it slow. What they've got lined up after Solo is Episode 9, a Rian Johnson trilogy, the D&D movies (presumably more than three), the Favreau live-action series, the animated Resistance series, and two rumoured/unconfirmed character anthologies. It's like the DC approach to making movies: - "Hey I got an idea for a movie!" - "That's great, let's announce it ASAP!" - "When are we releasing it?" - "Who knows??" Thing is though I'm a massive hypocrite. If the story/marketing behind the Fett movie interests me, and go I see it and like it, then I'm gonna end up eating my words. Basically if I enjoy what they're doing I'll just keep going to see them, so maybe I shouldn't be so hasty. The few Solo reviews I've seen range from "ok" to "good-not-great" to "meh", all kinda middling. I wasn't expecting anything game-changing or breathtaking but I'm still excited enough to go see it.

I agree they need to cool it with announcing things. I'd rather just get more info on what Rian is doing. I kind of have to laugh at a Boba Fett movie. He's a lot like Captain Phasma to me. A cool looking character that could be interesting but at the end of the day I don't really give a damn.

So I saw Solo.
Donald Glover is a shining beacon of joy in an otherwise underwhelming and very predictable movie. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I stand by my stance of waiting for the movie to come out before judging it.
Also, I have now made the mistake of reading Rian Johnson's twitter. Apparently Solo's terrible box office performance is his fault. Because of course it is.

I'm seeing a lot of stuff like this on the internet. Not flawless, but I thought The Last Jedi was easily the best of the recent Star Wars movies and it stuns me that it gets so much hate from fans. I don't know if this is just a vocal minority or what but they want everyone to know how displeased they were with the movie. Apparently there was an effort to boycott Solo in hopes that Disney would fire Kathleen Kennedy. How toxic is this fanbase?

Even though I've always loved Star Wars, I've never been actively involved with the fandom, so I was extremely disappointed to see all the malice and toxicity after The Last Jedi came out. So many people acting like entitled little shits who didn't get the toy they wanted for Christmas. I mean it's totally valid to dislike the movie, but jeez, don't be a bitch about it. Nothing is flawless, but I still consider The Last Jedi to be one of the best Star Wars movies, precisely because it felt so different than all the others. No other movie in the franchise, with the exception of A New Hope perhaps, has ever gotten such a strong emotional response out of me. I'm surprisingly zero hyped for Solo right now, so I'm probably gonna wait a few weeks until I go see it. I'm already starting to experience some franchise fatigue in regard to Star Wars.

Jake Lloyd is living proof of how horrible the fans can be, and how much they can fuck up someone's life. Sure he wasn't a good actor, but the amount of abuse that was levelled at him when he was just 10 years old is so messed up. And although I don't know for sure, I wager one of the reasons Lucas stepped away was also because of abuse he recieved. Like you've got people who were singing in the streets about how George Lucas raped their childhood. And now the same stuff is directed at Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy and even JJ Abrams to an extent. The funniest part of that is: they want Lucas back (or someone likeminded) to decide how Star Wars is being run, but can't see how what they're doing is exactly the kind of shit which drove him away from the franchise. You could say ... To go a little further with Kennedy: amongst these people she's been declared some kind of pariah, like she's the evil wicked witch of the west of Star Wars, and everything bad with the movies and tv shows is either her fault or Disney's. Like the "blame" for any "bad" creative decision will be placed on her. Supposedly all because she wore a shirt one time. Whereas if those people like what's happening Star Wars, the credit goes directly to Gareth Edwards or Ron Howard or Dave Filoni (who does all the animated stuff) and NONE of it goes to her. It's as though she can only be responsible for the bad things. Even if the poor marketing and bad release date for Solo is her "fault", I still don't want her to be fired purely because it'll justify these people's actions in their minds and it'll tell them that they can boycott movies to get someone fired. It's deluded. Edit: in fact a few months ago, I read some of RJ's twitter, and found this picture sent to him. I mean how fucked up do you have to be to make that?

This is my feeling about Solo (I still think it was an unnecessary movie) and my husband's feeling too. I didn't think TLJ was as bad as some in the fanbase swear it is but also I think the critics oversold the movie as well. To me, it wasn't perfect, but I certainly did not hate the movie at all, it had parts that worked really well for me and other parts that didn't. But the big thing I feel is SW fatigue. I think, honestly, that was why Solo underperformed at the box office. I'm seeing a lot of stuff like this on the internet. Solo was very mediocre for me. It was fun enough, but I don't even think I'll buy this one on DVD.
Alden wasn't good and he and Emilia had no chemistry together. In fact, the only new character that interested me at all was L3 and she died after 15 minutes of being introduced.
Chewy was the heart for me. I felt nothing seeing AldenHan sit in the Falcon for the first time, but I felt it for Chewy.
I can't even get excited about the Maul tease because I have no interest in seeing Qi'ra ever again.

Saw Solo again tonight and man I loved it even more the second time, it definitely requires multiple viewings in my opinion. There were sooooo many references for weirdos like me who absorb every single piece of information and I was so happy. My favorites were Teras Kasi, Aurra Sing, and the Lando Calrissian Adventure titles.
Enfys Nest needs to be huge. I loved the Cloud Riders.
L3 being part of the Falcon makes the scene with 3PO in ESB amazing.
Vos was such a great villain, it was so uncomfortable to see him be so pleasant knowing what he can do and has done.
I think Crimson Dawn is going to be a connecting thread through these next few anthology films. I can see Han, Chewie, and Lando showing up in the Boba Fett movie with Maul and Qi’ra playing minor roles and then possibly Kenobi showing the downfall of Crimson Dawn by his hands, though neither him or Maul realize the other is involved, and leads to Maul going to Malachor. The storytelling potential here is unreal.

The storytelling potential here is unreal. I think the anthologies are gonna be good at having those little references. The sequels are too busy trying to tell their own story (even if they're kinda winging it) in a separate era but the movies which are set inbetween instalments can easily throw in some obscure details. I especially liked the Aurra Sing reference and the connection to 3PO's throwaway line in ESB.
Although I didn't think Vos was a particularly engaging character, I did really enjoy Bettany's performance. He really had my attention whenever he was onscreen, much like Glover.
As for the future, I could see some kind of conflict between Jabba and Maul be the backdrop for the Fett movie, which could then easily include other bounty hunters to make it more interesting than Fett alone. Also they've already hinted in Rebels that Maul has not only met but fought Darth Vader, so that could also be a future possibility.
Personally I'd be fine with anything so long as they try to surprise me. The biggest thing Solo had going against it (to me) was that I knew roughly how it would go, or that parts would be pretty predictable. For instance I thought it might have been along the lines of: "Han meets mentor - Han reunited with lover - mentor maybe bad - lover maybe bad - mentor is bad - lover not bad" which is very close to how it ended up. I had other smaller problems but that was the main thing which bothered me.
I'll probably see it again, but if I now know what happens I might not be as bothered by that.

I've been reading some Reddit threads about why Solo is underperforming and I'm convinced that the first generation of Star Wars fans are the original neckbeards. These people are constantly screeching about how Kathleen and Rian are forcing pc-culture down their throats and how TLJ ruined their childhoods(same shit as the prequels, how many times can a childhood be ruined when you're a grown ass man?).
I hope Disney sticks to their guns and continues to feature characters that are women and POC. That's the future.

Like I totally understand complaints about how painfully unsubtle they are, but I don't see how they're so "liberal" or SJW.

I can understand some of the complaints about the film being predictable because I mean it was, but it doesn’t really bother me because every act of it was fun and engaging! Battle on Mimban and the Beast was beautiful looking and intense, train heist was cinematic as fuck, liberation on Kessel was chaotic fun, Kessel Run was fucking iconic, and Savareen stand-off was tense and had so much heart even though it was a little obvious what was happening. And I love love LOVE that Han’s jaded nature comes not from Qi’ra dying, but from Qi’ra LEAVING HIM BEHIND. Just perfectly moves the character closer towards who he is when we first meet him. I would definitely see it again if I were you. It’s very high in my rankings and I can’t wait to see it again with my friends who haven’t got to go yet.
