I forgot to get on this thread about last week's episode with Melissa Mc Carthy. I found her opening monologue underwhelming (nice of her to take a random audience member on a weird tour of backstage of SNL...but I could have done without it). The opening with Baldwin as Trump speaking with Lester Holt (who says into an ear piece, we got him right? You mean no one cares...it's all meaningless?) was excellent as was Mc Carthy as Sean Spicer. The rest of it was "meh"
The overall best bit was Amazon Alexa for Seniors:
Other best part was the end where Mc Carthy got her 5 timer jacket and Steve Martin surprised her.

I agree that McCarthy's week was a bit meh. They didn't really use her much in the sketches and when they did they didn't play to her strengths (physical comedy). So apparently Sasheer Zamata also had her last show last night. Wow. That one was slipped under the radar. I always liked her on the ocassions she was used (not nearly often enough). Bobby and Vanessa will be harder shoes to fill (because they were core cast and in a lot of sketches/had many characters) but Sasheer will be a miss too. I'm hoping they bring some of the existing cast into more prominent roles. Giving Melissa Villaseñor more to do would be a good move imo. Was reading an article (which was where I found out about Zamata) where they were talking about the problem this season was focusing too heavily on guest stars and such rather than utilising their actual cast. I can't disagree with that. I've said before that Baldwin became more of a main cast member than many of the actual cast. This season rested way too much on Baldwin and a few core cast members. |

stoneheartsrevenge, I had no idea that Sasheer Zamata was leaving. I'm not a every week watcher but I would say, yes, there was too much focus on guest stars. Granted US politics was a shit show and ripe for mockery. But it is a shame that one of the core cast couldn't do Fart the way Darrell Hammond could do a killer Clinton and Will Farrell could do a killer George W Bush.
