I'm reading reviews where people complain about The Punisher is too violent and includes too much gun violence.
But at the same time, it's a show about the fucking punisher. Frank Castle kills people. With guns. That's like, the summary of his entire character. I don't understand what people were expecting...

He's not putting people in time out on the naughty step.

Going from the feel-good ending of Stranger Things into the cynical, depressing, blood-rife Punisher is probably one of the most jarring changes I've ever made in my life

Based on the trailers aloneness it was obviously going to be very violent. And anyone who watched DD2 would be able to suss 5at out too.

So I finished Punisher and I honestly really enjoyed it. I now have a toss up between Punisher, Daredevil 1 and Jessica Jones over which is the best series, so that's helpful. All in all, I thought the series was really good, though I do understand the criticism now on reflection, which mainly, IMO, stems from a lack of understanding. A lot of the reviews I've read complain about not only things like violence, but also the shows political compass. The show flirts with a number of political issues, obviously stuff like mental health, gun violence, whether there's any justification for vigilantee/terrorist behavior. One thing I really loved, but seems to be a point of contention in many reviews I read is the shows avoidance of offering any answers, or showing any alliegance to either side. The show gives a form of justification to both sides of it's arguement, most specifically on gun control, namely in a debate between Karen and Ori, and seems to skirt wih the opinion that gun use is at times a necessary evil. Though to put any of the shows themes into a conclusive and tidy field of pro or anti is bullshit. The show presents these arguement as what they are, extremely complex situations, to which there are no easy answers. The main character is a pretty awful person, who has done awful things, and continues to do so.
There is focus on the way patriotism is often abused by individuals in order to gain what they want, in the case of Agent Orange or even O'Connor, who uses it as justification for his awful rhetoric. Again, there aren't simple, or even right answers.
The character of the Punisher is deeply conflicted. He doesn't have easy answers. He makes his own answers, usually by doing terrible things. But he was never meant to be a good guy. He's not going to be Daredevil, who takes the bad guy down by the books, or Luke Cage, who wants to clean up Harlem. Frank Castle wants justice, and he's going to decide what that means for himself. That's always been the character, and I think this series really did it justice.
Though I will agree on one complaint which is pretty much universal about these netflix series. A bit too long. It didn't feel like they stretched the material too much, at least not as bad as Cage or Iron Fist, but it was definitely there. I wish they took the cue from Defenders and cut it down to 8 episodes. There were times when it felt the show was treading water that Daredevil S2 had already established, and chances are anyone watching this series with any real interest had watched Daredevil anyway, so it seemed pointless. TLDR, I enjoyed it.

So I finished it last night, and I certainly enjoyed it, but I definitely had a few problems which are pretty prevalent in my mind atm. I feel like the villains in these shows are getting progressively weaker. Diamondback I've complained about, and although I enjoyed the Hand while I was watching Defenders, in hindsight they're pretty forgettable. In this series, I didn't much care for Rawlins or Russo. They both seemed to be only out for themselves, and while that's definitely realistic, I just don't find it particularly compelling, especially compared to Fisk and Kilgrave.
And while I'm talking about the characters, there's plenty I enjoyed partly because of their many layers and complexity and also because the casting is superb, like Frank, Madani and Micro. So I find it a bit of an issue that one of the main characters - Micro's wife, who appears in a lot of episodes - has absolutely no character beyond being a wife and mother. It's kind of a nitpick, but it did annoy me once I noticed and thought about it more.
Then there's the two risky episodes that completely derail the series' main plot far more than the Jessica Jones one did (the one with the police officer and the pills etc). I get that Frank is at heart a good guy who does things the wrong way, but the whole "I hate terrorists" subplot comes out of nowhere. I just felt like a very jarring turn after closing in on Rawlins. Then there's the fact that it toyed with the gun control issue, and although it didn't give a clear answer, I don't think it was a particularly balanced argument either. The two main protagonists involved (Frank and Karen) are both pro-gun (well, more than they are anti-gun anyway) and the politician Karen sits down with is portrayed as an extreme coward and hypocrite. There was no reliable viewpoint from the anti-gun side IMO. The fact that the show plays with the idea for 2 episodes then basically forgets it doesn't exactly help either.
One final nitpick: these characters are too fucking resilient. Seriously the three who fought in the final battle should be dead. It's beyond the realms of possibility that they survived so much and kinda makes me wonder if they're ever in any real danger.
Okay, once again I've come off extremely negative with my review, but I should emphasise that I did enjoy it a lot. It's not like Luke Cage where I lost interest after the penultimate episode or Iron Fist after the third; it entertained me and kept me watching so it's better than others.

I'm hyped, but what an annoyingly vague trailer. I mean I'd like to know something about the plot. Seems more like a montage than a trailer.
Edit: It's released on International Women's Day so that's pretty cool!

I hope the David Tennant stuff (cause that's definitely him at the end) is a recurring thing and not just once or twice. He really stole a lot of the scenes he was in in S1 imo and I'd love to see him back. Also Trish as a sidekick sidekick? Yes please!

Season 2of Luke Cage is better than the first so far. Maybe it tails off like Season one did but hopefully not. Especially love having Misty Claire and Colleen, I don’t think I care enough about Luke for him to hold the show alone. Raising some difficult issues so far too. Also Mariah is one of my favourite Marvel Netflix villains so far. So glad it’s not the fucking Hand again

Season 2 of iron fist was way better than season one but the best bits are still those which don't focus on Danny. Colleen and Misty are kickass and need their own show. Found Mary v. Interesting too
And apparently DD Season 3 is next month! Squee!

Seems a little on the spoilery side, but I'm so glad we're getting more Fisk. Season 2 never really tried to fill the hole he left.

Netflix cancelled Iron Fist. The cancellation does not rule out that Iron Fist will appear in the other Marvel Netflix shows though.
