I started Rise of the Tomb Raider and I'm already in love with it. It's such an improvement over the first game. Also Lara just dropped the C-bomb and it was glorious.

I'm currently playing the Tomb Raider reboot after many years and perhaps I need to reevaluate my stance on the game. I used to be very critical of it when it first came out, but I'm actually having a blast replaying it right now. Also, Lara is such a great character. My biggest problem with the game are the shooting sections. They're really fun to play and all, but there is just so many of them. Lara's kill count throughout the game is insanely high. Nathan Drake kills a lot of people too, but the difference is, Uncharted as a franchise doesn't take itself too seriously. Tomb Raider does, Lara feels like a real human, so when she single-handedly murders the entire population of an island, it completely shatters your suspension of disbelief and leads to one of the most extreme cases of ludonarrative dissonance I've ever seen in a game. I think they should have tried to make every encounter feel meaningful, make it so every life Lara has to take feels significant. I think that would have lead to an overall stronger narrative and more interesting gameplay. Also, none of the side characters are all that interesting unfortunately. I really dig the game's mythology about a cursed island and an evil undead Sun Queen, but I just wish the actual plot had been a bit stronger and more engaging. If Lara wasn't such a great character, it would be near impossible to care about the story at all. I never finished Rise of the Tomb Raider either. Very curious to see if it improves upon the first game in any way.

Yeah, Loki is the mother of Odin's horse Sleipnir. I haven't read Neil Gaiman's version, but I read the Edda when I was younger. Way before the MCU was a thing, before I even knew that there were Marvel comics based on Norse mythology.

So, I've been re-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy over the last two days. I just finished Return of the King this morning and I'm a sad and emotional mess right now. I mean, it's pretty common for me to tear up a bit at an emotional movie scene, but not like this man, never like this. I have spent literally the last hour and a half ugly crying my heart out. I swear, these movies are like a spiritual, not to say religious, experience for me.
The funny thing is, I was kind of late to the party in regard to Lord of the Rings. I watched the movies with my dad in the cinema when they first came out, but I was too young back then to really appreciate them and I quickly forgot about them. It wasn't until around 2012 when I watched them again in the extended cut, that I absolutely fell in love with them. Nowadays, I genuinely think these are the best movies of all time, and they only seem to get better every time I watch them.

I'm very skeptical on reading any works by Dan Brown cause how much Da Vinci Code really turned out. I understand that feeling. I consider Dan Brown beach reading. I like some of the historical facts he puts in there but in no way is it grounded in reality. I wish the movies based on his books were better, I do like Tom Hanks in the role. I think the movies were mostly okay. I mean, they're not great, but the only one I actively disliked was Inferno, the other two were fine. Tom Hanks is great as Langdon, but I also really love the way Sophie and Vittoria were portrayed in the movies, and that they were both played by two great actresses that I adore. Audrey Tautou and Ayelet Zurer. I still prefer the story the way it is told in the books, but as far as film adaptations go, I thought the first two were pretty enjoyable. Inferno was legit bad.

Can't wait to see Love, Simon. Apparently it's amazing, gay reddit is absolutely in love with it. Unfortunately it doesn't come out in Germany until the end of June.

Saw Tomb Raider with my brother last night we're both huge Tomb Raider fans ... and it was okay! I love everything Tomb Raider, so I wanted to love this too sooo bad, but I just couldn't. It was just so meh in almost every aspect, and the dialogue was legit awful sometimes. It's so weird how the story of this movie was one hundred percent based on the story of the Tomb Raider reboot from 2013, while the character of Lara Croft herself seemed to have more in common with old-school Lara. The old Lara was an eccentric and a thrillseeker, she was mostly in it for the adventure. The new Lara on the other hand was far more grounded, she was a legit archaeologist who had an academic interest in the historical meaning of her discoveries. But yeah, it was an okay movie. This happens a lot with movies based on video games, they took the story of the game and simplified it to the point where it's almost unrecognizable. Also, for some reason, they took away the supernatural aspect, which is super disappointing. There were one or two references to the games that made me happy (that scene where she buys two pistols made me grin like an idiot), but apart from that, the movie was sadly extremely forgettable.

David Jakobs is amazing. Thank you for sharing that video here. Our broadway doesn't often make videos like that, I love it! He really was amazing. I loved the show as a whole, but his performance was the most compelling aspect of it, it made my heart break for Quasimodo. That was perhaps the most beautiful and sincere portrayals of a character I have ever seen in a live musical, he made me feel so much for his character. It has been almost a week since I saw the show and I can't stop thinking about it, and especially about his performance.
