Jack, I never said I didn't like it. I think at first, I didn't really understand why they focused so much on Matt and Mary instead of the rest of the characters, but after watching some of the scenes back, it was overall good. The format this season seems like they're trying to have more character centric episodes than plot driven episodes. It does add a lot more depth though, I was just trying to figure out how things were related. This show makes you ask a lot of questions.

The character specific episodes have been some of the strongest. The Season 1 Matt episode, Season 1 Nora episode, and Season 2 Murphy's episode were all brilliant.

Yeah agreed it allows to connect with the characters a lot more and especially this season, which has been pretty strong so I think I'll grow to like this format.

How about some love for Janel Moloney? Weird gig for anyone, but she's been great.

That way really good. Matt episodes are always very depressing and I kind of knew he'd take the guy's place at the end of the episode and that the people at the side of the road would steal there car and a few other plot points were relatively predictable but it still worked well all the same. The Job reference was a little heavy-handed given the contents of the episode...but I think they drew that parallel too last year, so again, I don't mind too much. Eccleston is amazing as per usual.
I wonder how the Matt-John tension will pay off by the end of the season? I'd thought that it would be more of a Kevin-John conflict given the setup already included, but I found this battle of worldviews and men more convincing tbh.

I have no idea what is going on with this show, but I turned on HBO and there was a naked guy getting shit thrown at him. I'm confused. I may have to watch, the dog killing in the pilot turned me off, but I hear it's not like that anymore.

Just finished the Matt episode....fuck that was gut wrenching. Everything that went wrong was very predictable, but that hardly made it easier to watch. Fantastic performance, and episode.
I want to know John's past more than ever now! I can't decide if this or Fargo is the best show on tv right now.

Trying to put some thoughts around my original reaction...I'm impressed that it was such a slog, and yet the time went by so quickly. It's funny that some of you said you saw things coming, because I didn't see a thing coming tonight. I was surprised over and over. The Job reference is obvious; he says it's his favorite book of the Bible, and he suffers like Job, silently, always faithful, never blaming God. Job lost everything, including his wife and children and then was rewarded for his faith by getting new ones later. (A thing I always thought was gross, like yeah, wives and children are completely replaceable!)
The actor is amazing. He has this crazed fanatical look all the time.

What is everyone's verdict on Mary waking up? Did she for real? Did Matt hallucinate it? Or the darkest option, she didn't, and he knew she was still catatonic?

I changed my mind about that question at least five times. I'm still not sure, but I was willing her to wake up the whole time, like I believed him. What's creepy to me is I actually had the thought before the pregnancy came up...I wonder if he ever has sex with her. There was something about the way they showed him with her body. So touching and nonsexual, but there was _something_ that set off my uh oh alarm.
