I didn't mind Brienne's nastiness to Pod, since it set up the nice scene with Pod and Brienne giving their respective backstories, and with Brienne apologizing to Pod and offering to train him properly. It also makes character sense that Brienne is nasty to Pod; she's got a long string of failures under her belt (Renly's dead, Catelyn's dead, Arya spurned her offer of assistance, etc.), and he's the only possible outlet for her frustration. Pod's incompetence only makes matters worse.
Loved Brienne's speech in 5x03 about Renly. That was beautifully acted by Gwen Christie.
I'll reserve judgment on the Sansa/Jeyne swap for now, but I'm at a loss as to what this means for Sansa in the books. The answer is quite possibly "nothing," but it seems so strange to give her an arc that doesn't appear to have an easy "reset" button like Jaime's Dorne arc this season.

I wonder if, in exchange for teaching him how to fight, Sex God Pod will teach Brienne how to give a good fuck.

I saw it all, thank you. In all honestly, apologies aren't always enough, that's true in RL as well. What I will be more interested to find out about is.........if she ceases and desists with the way she treats him. The brothel freebie was a joke, fer craps sake, LOL ; Please don't joke about such crucial stuff Hey, I actually like Pod The Sex God. I'm trying to get him his due!!

My issues is more that they did the same arc twice. Last season was all about Pod failing and Brienne being a dick, then softening him to allow him to undo her armor. Then after Hot Pie and Pod suggesting they head to the Vale, and the Hound, now she's a major dick to Pod again. It's the same story, just a different flavor. It's a better flavor than last season, but meh. It's not a big deal really.

It's a shame the script doesn't match Christie's considerable talent

yeh i thought Brienne's nastiness paid off by hearing that story from the past.
in fact theres a lot of mention of the past this season. it would've been better if they did this from the start. i can't believe they didn't use Jojen for re-telling the story of the tourney of harrenhall.

The Tourney of Harrenhal coming from LF wasn't that implausible though really (IIRC it was before his duel with Brandon and he WOULD be in the Riverlands then, I think) and it was interesting to hear his almost starstruck account of it, reminding us that he really was once an idealistic kid. Gillen gets a lot of crap, mostly justifiably because of his fluctuating accents and sometimes gravelly sometimes soft voice etc. but I thought he was good in that scene.
I loved Sansa finding the feather that Robert put on Lyanna's tomb all the way back in ep. 101 btw.
But you're right, a little more info from Jojen would've been nice. Maybe something about Howland and Ned's friendship beyond the mention of it in ep. 302.

Her finding Robert's feather was an excellent touch.
What's the deal behind the feather anyway? Shouldn't he have placed a crown of Winter Roses in her hand? Or did that remind him of Rhaegar? Or was placing a feather in your hand a traditional betrothal greeting/sign that Robert performed to her many years ago in the Vale?

On the commentary for 501 IIRC D and D said that they'd scripted it to be a flower but then decided that Robert would give her the feather of a bird that lives in the south exclusively instead. I believe they implied that this is something he might have done in his courtship.

That's why folks should watch on servers instead of download.

Meh. No one was disadvantaged by me downloading them as I'm not in the US so don't pay a subscription to HBO and I don't have a BARB box so whether I watch on Sky Atlantic (which I have and pay for) is irrelevant for viewing figures. Plus, I'll buy the BluRays when they come out.

By server I meant file hosting site, so I wasn't saying don't watch it illegally, because I did too. Just that downloading files can come with viruses and, apparently, legal action, whereas watching on other sorts of sites can mean avoiding both.

It's been mentioned by some reviewers who were going off the screeners they were given that the Small Council scene in E2 (where Kevan huffed off) was actually cut up and the Small Council scene from E4 (where Mace is tasked with going to Braavos with Meryn) was actually part of this first scene. If you watch the E4 scene, it does seem obvious that it starts as a cut from a longer sequence before it.
I can see why they would have made this change as Cersei sending Mace away is followed quickly by her getting Loras arrested so you can more easily follow her motivations. It's also nice to get 2 Small Council scenes instead of 1.
However, Mace is still present at King's Landing in E3 at Margaery and Tommen's wedding so it makes you wonder how they originally had the scenes ordered as this would seem to be a big change.
