Sleeping Beauty was ripe for a really good live action telling. I don't mind a Maleficent backstory but she is one of Disney's most iconic villains, keep her that way. It would be like making Cinderella's stepmother justified in how she treats her and feeling sorry for Ursula. No. Just no.

It would be like making Cinderella's stepmother justified in how she treats her and feeling sorry for Ursula. No. Just no. Exactly. I mean, sure, give her a tragic backstory, show us why she became evil, but don't make her a misunderstood victim, who almost immediately regrets the only truly "evil" deed of her life (cursing Aurora). In the animated movie, she calls herself the "mistress of all evil" and she literally calls upon the powers of hell to aid her. She's not misunderstood, she's fucking evil and crazy, and that's exactly what makes her such a good villain. I also kinda hated the way the movie portrayed the fairy godmothers as neglectful, moronic idiots who can't do anything right. And Angelina Jolie was so great in the movie, it could have been awesome, if the writing hadn't been so incredibly weak and cliched.

I don't think there could have been actress to play a live action Maleficent other than Angelina...I don't know what Disney was thinking with that version. I put a plug in for latest live action Cinderella. Not because Richard Madden happens to be in it but I felt like it was a well done version of that tale. Lily James was wonderful as Cinderella and Cate Blanchett was really good as the Stepmother. I liked the fact the script give Cinderella's parents some screen time and gave the Prince an actual story and some depth.

Do you guys know the movie "The Prince of Egypt"? It's pretty awesome, probably one of my favourite movies ever, which is kinda ironic, considering I'm an atheist through and through who thinks the bible is bullshit for the most part. But the way Exodus is told in this movie actually makes for a very touching, beautiful story, it's all about the relationship between the two brothers and it works great. Also the art style is quite gorgeous. And the music is just freaking incredible, especially this song: Also this one: It's on Netflix, if you haven't seen it yet, you should totally do that. Oh God, I remember this from Primary school... Haven't saw it in years though. I saw this post and went googling it. Wow, it had quite the star studded cast didn't it? And Hans Zimmer was responsible for part of the score? I'm not into religion, but this might be worth a rewatch.

Yeah, Hans Zimmer did the score, but the actual songs were written by Stephen Schwartz (that's the guy who wrote Wicked). I'm really not into religion at all, but I love this movie nonetheless. Yeah, sure, it has many religious themes in it and also ... "God", but the heart of the movie lies in the relationship between the two main characters. If you just view it as it's own story, not as religious nonsense, it's a truly beautiful movie and the music is divine (pun intended).

I've been watching a lot of animated movies lately. Another one of my favourites is Sleeping Beauty. Everything is so fucking great about this movie, the music, the atmosphere, the art style (imo the best looking animated Disney movie to date and Aurora is probably the prettiest princess). Please watch this scene and tell me that it's not some fucked up, creepy shit: And the showdown is the most exciting showdown of any Disney movie ever, in my opinion. I love how well the music fits the action on screen: I have to say, I really hate what they did with the movie "Maleficent" that came out last year. Why exactly did they feel the need to make the character Maleficent good, that's so fucking stupid. Sleeping Beauty was the scariest Disney movie to me as a kid. Fantasia was a bit creepy. But both are gorgeous. Speaking of animation, do you like Miyazaki? I love every single one of his.

I LOVE Spirited Away, it is one of my favourite movies, for sure. The only other movie from Studio Ghibli I've seen was Castle in the Sky, which I also quite liked (especially the beautiful theme song). I really should watch the rest of their movies someday, especially Princess Mononoke, which everybody keeps telling me is a true master piece.

In addition to Princess Mononoke, which is truly beautiful, I recommend My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service.

So, back to Sleeping Beauty, that fight scene you posted heavily influenced my nightmares after I saw it. Falling off tall precipices, tall jumping shadows...

Was looking at the cast for The Witch, hadn't realized the actress that played Lysa Arryn is in this. Not sure the role, but she fits well in a creepy type horror movie.

I saw Tale of Tales last night, which was fucking bizarre and I almost never use that word when it comes to films. Italians have some fucked up fairy tales. but the visuals and the performances were great I also saw Queen of Earth which was fantastic but I'm pretty sure I didn't understand much from this film

I've heard that Regression is really, really bad. Although I hope it's good or at least successful because I want Emma Watson's post-HP career to be a success. Also, TIFF starts in a few weeks I wish I could go.

I can't decide if Mad Max: Fury Road or Ex Machina is my favorite movie of the year so far. They were both excellent, and total opposites in style and tone. Mad Max was loud, bold, and in your face, while Ex Machina was cold, understated, and thought-provoking. I'll have to rewatch Mad Max when it comes out later this week, but overall it's been a surprisingly good year for movies, where I've found myself really enjoying a handful of them.

I thought Fury Road was much better than Ex Machina. I liked the latter well enough, but it's not something that really stayed with me. Or even would want to watch multiple times. Compared to Fury Road which I thought was fantastic. One of the best action movies I've seen in years. Can't wait to watch it again. The blu ray comes out Tuesday too!

The next 2 movies I want to see are Black Mass and Legend, which also look really good and surprisingly both have great casts. I hope they will also be added to the good year for movies.

I though Ex-Machina was average. Also I'm really annoyed with Alicia Vikander. Word is that Weinstein is pimping her out and she is dating Fassy for publicity. This is all so gross, I bet next we gonna see some of her couch photos leak, like with JLaw
