I just watched saw that linked on r/movies. I'd heard about it a few months ago (including hearing a description of how it opens... ) and it almost looks TOO scary. With all of the shitty jump scare-reliant movies there've been of late when you get the genuine article like this, one that creates a building sense of dread instead, I wonder if I even should see it. Just the trailer by itself has me worried about witches in my house and you only see her in the ad for like a half-second.

And now that director's going to remark Nosferatu. Good on him.

And now that director's going to remark Nosferatu. Good on him. I wish they just gave him money to do something original. A horror director with good ideas and clear vision and dedication is like a unicorn farting four leaf clovers these days.

That's true but the original Nosferatu and the Herzog one are so good that if there's going to be another, best it comes from a guy who can do atmosphere and period pieces well.
EDIT: Apparently he's writing the new Nosferatu too, so I don't think he's a hired hand for it. It could well be his brainchild for all we know.

I don't get it, horror can be a very profitable genre, but you rarely have anybody with a vision producing them these days. I'm way into atmosphere and dread. Japanese horror films of the 90s and 2000s were great for those, and America ruined those with the awful remakes. I don't understand how the Japanese version of the Grudge can be miles better than the American version, and they had the same director. We are getting so many remakes now, they are rebooting the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, wtf. Throw some cash at Englund and Craven and see if they can recapture the magic of New Nightmare.
Ti West showed promise with House of the Devil, but The Sacrament was a bit underwhelming.

You can't have terrified people running away from some monster or killer only allowed to say "fuck" once. Not to mention the half-assed violence in them.

The trailer for my most anticipated movie since Black Swan (which is actually my #1 fav film) dropped today...and it has 2 GoT actors in it: I am so there. This looks amazing.

And OF COURSE it was shot within an hour's drive of my cottage. Lovely. I won't be able to sleep up there anymore.

Still one can make disaster films like San San Andreas or 2012 where millions or billions die! in a family friendly way, and make big boxoffice. Talk about underwhelming and non-engaging , passes beyond my understanding.

The Martian is getting a lot of buzz right now. I have read the novel and it is a natural. It is a straight forward problem solving survival story like Gravity. A very lively story. Ridley Stott does not have to do much of anything but transfer this into a two hour , or so, film. I don't think Scott can mess this one up, I hope!

Do you guys know the movie "The Prince of Egypt"? It's pretty awesome, probably one of my favourite movies ever, which is kinda ironic, considering I'm an atheist through and through who thinks the bible is bullshit for the most part. But the way Exodus is told in this movie actually makes for a very touching, beautiful story, it's all about the relationship between the two brothers and it works great. Also the art style is quite gorgeous.
And the music is just freaking incredible, especially this song:
Also this one:
It's on Netflix, if you haven't seen it yet, you should totally do that.

I did not see the Prince of Egypt when it came out. Now that I have kids, they've watched it over and over again on Netflix. I agree, it's a very good movie-well done. It's probably one of my kids favorite movies.
I don't even know what movies I am looking forward to. I just want to see a movie again...the hubs and I have not had a movie date in a while and the way it's looking, we might not go until December when Star Wars comes out.

I've been watching a lot of animated movies lately. Another one of my favourites is Sleeping Beauty. Everything is so fucking great about this movie, the music, the atmosphere, the art style (imo the best looking animated Disney movie to date and Aurora is probably the prettiest princess). Please watch this scene and tell me that it's not some fucked up, creepy shit: And the showdown is the most exciting showdown of any Disney movie ever, in my opinion. I love how well the music fits the action on screen: I have to say, I really hate what they did with the movie "Maleficent" that came out last year. Why exactly did they feel the need to make the character Maleficent good, that's so fucking stupid.
