Just the fact that it's considered a new chapter AND that the Damphair is considered the preferred alternative... says basically all we need to know. True, but he can't really release any other chapters. Half of them ended on cliffhangers, so characters like the Greyjoy brothers, Sansa, Arianne, and Dany are the only ones he can release as samples. Personally I'm really intrigued about the possibility of TWoW having four battles. Battle of Ice, Siege of Meereen, fAegon vs the Tyrells, and of course Snowbowl. Umm...Dany ended on a huge cliffhanger.

Meh, that chapter was just okay. Theon's is still the strongest out of the Winds chapters he's released.

I enjoyed the chapter. We are going to see storms end! and this one was really about developing some periphery characters in faegons and ariannes camp. Since its basically all new characters we need the travelogue and set up. It made me realise how seriously Dorne was lacking without Arianne on the show. And Doran We also find out Nym and Tyene have posibbly arrived in KL and Trystane remained behind. I wonder if Myrcella really is poisoned before she gets to KL? Looks like Trystane will share a much different fate.

A lot of these chapters, including the latest one, feel like they will actually be longer but they were not included in full because the rest would be too spoilery. That has happened before: Theon's arrival at Pyke way back was provided as a sample chapter, but the chapter when it was actually released was quite a bit more informative.

So there is a chance Myrcella is now a hostage of Aegon and Connington. Not sure I like to think of the implications of that, I have a bad feeling that Connington would be tempted to pay back the deaths of Rhaegar's children in kind to the Lannisters. Or, Myrcella and co. May have reached King's Landing unimpeded

It makes sense as a move for them, given their goal is certainly stiil war against the Lannisters.

Or, Myrcella and co. May have reached King's Landing unimpeded I think the latter is more likely as I think Dorne will have a role to play in KL. I think its likely myrcella is killed when they encounter the trouble on the road that Cersei herself set up. Whether the sand snakes killed her or it really was a terrible unavoidable thing is unknown. Either way I think myrcella is dying soon.

I haven't thought about TWOW for a very long time tbh. And probably won't much again. I still intend to read it, but I have put it on the back burner and decided not to think about it or the story lines that are different than the show until it's published.

Disagree, if this were before AFFC and ADWD, I might see your point, but seeing how bloated GRRM's writing can be lately, I'm sure this are all full chapters. The only one that doesn't cut just before the main event is Mercy, that shows us what Arya has been doing with Izembaro and ends that part of her training, doing a good job of moving the plot forward.

The only one that doesn't cut just before the main event is Mercy, that shows us what Arya has been doing with Izembaro and ends that part of her training, doing a good job of moving the plot forward. That's the thing though; they are almost all setup for events that will take place pretty much IMMEDIATELY and in all cases the only POV that can cover the event being set up is the one we are already in. So there is pretty much no point in GRRM cutting away, letting other chapters happen, and then picking up a few hours later, same place, same POV etc. When GRRM leave a POV with important events not covered, he usually does it because he wants to cover the events from a different POV, not just cutting away for the sake of cutting away. With Theon's Pyke chapter, in the early release we got just his arrival at the Islands, but then in the actual book the same chapter also covered his major foot in mouth journey with Asha and his reunion with his father. The sample stopped at the point where the chapter started giving away too much info. The same is very likely happening here in many cases.

Does anyone else think Elia's flirtation with Feathers is about more than just fun and games?
He is the one sending the ravens! Maybe Elia has him sending them somewhere other than to Doran.

This qoute from Stannis in the Theon chapter is pretty great, and I don't even particularly like him...
"I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Tell me, turncloak, what battles has the Bastard of Bolton ever won that I should fear him?"

Oh, the irony when it turns out that the only battle Bastard of Bolton ever wins is the one against Stannis

I've only read through ASOIAF once via the audiobooks. I'll be resuming Round 2 (ACOK in a couple of weeks) after I'm done the new Star Wars book, Bloodline. I may explore TWOW, but I'm mildly optimistic that by the time I finish Round 2, that TWOW will be announced.
I think it's cool that GRRM releases a chapter and I know some of you really enjoy it. But I'd rather hold off until we get the whole book. It's just too fragmented. If he never finishes TWOW, I'll go back and read what the chapters he completed.
