Yes, yes, I totally stole that thread title idea from 'the other place.' So? Sue me. :snape:
I know the usual divide on this topic is between Dunk & Egg and Robert's Rebellion. Its Robert's Rebellion all the way for me. It seems to me the obvious prequel to the series we're watching now, and hopefully would attract a hefty chunk of the current massive audience. All the names of the current series' characters would be familiar, and there they would all be, in their youth---Ned Stark (and Howland Reed, please!), Tywin Lannister, young gorgeous warrior Robert Baratheon. Plus the new fascinating characters we only now know as shadows... Rhaegar, Lyanna, Arthur and Ashara Dayne, Mad Arys and his poor wife (I forgot her name!!)
There are other options besides these two, of course. If you could keep a Game of Thrones-themed series around a few more years after this one ends, what would it be? And how do you see it--a mini-series with perhaps 3, 4, 5 episodes, over and done in a single year? Or... ? And what about the money? What would convince HBO to invest the mega-bucks they're pouring into GoT, into a new series that would draw much of the same audience that GoT now commands?
Your thoughts?

A show about Stannis finding various animals and nursing them back to health

I was thinking about who should play whom, if we're ever lucky enough to see Robert's Rebellion come to life. But who am I kidding--all I really want to know is, who should play Rhaegar? Anybody got any suggestions?

I'd love to see both of them, but Robert's Rebellion could fit in a 3-hour movie. Dunk & Egg would be better in a TV series, but more like Sherlock, with like three long episodes per season.

How amazing would it be if Frank Dillane would play young Stannis Baratheon? His father could give him some useful tips on how to be Stannis!

Except for his hairline, I don't think he looks anything like Stephen.

Except for his hairline, I don't think he looks anything like Stephen. I agree. I've never seen Frank's mother but he must be a spitting image of her. If they got him to play a younger Stannis, I would be on board with that. I'd love to see Robert's Rebellion as a mini-series. And the suggestion of Alexander Skarsgard as Rhaeger, oh yes, please. Great idea I have not read the Dunk and Egg novellas. I am trying to wait on them until GRRM finishes the books. But that might not happen

I think Jessica Brown Findlay or Alycia Debnam Carey would be good choices.

I think Jessica Brown Findlay or Alycia Debnam Carey would be good choices. Photos! We gotta see our Lyanna. Should be not classically beautiful, but with sparks of the wild-child girl, the wolf-girl, and with that... something to captivate Rhaegar. I'm terrible at casting, can only ever see people exactly as they are and not as they could be playing someone else.

Jessica Brown Findlay - She played Sybil Crawley on Downton Abbey who was a bit of rebellious child herself. Alycia Debnam Carey - She's actually going to be in the Walking Dead spinoff with Stephen Dillane's son haha. I included the gif too because I couldn't find a picture I liked with her hair like that. In the show it's from, The 100, she's usually got facepaint on so it's rare to find one without it.
