Catelyn is my favorite character It's hard to judge episodes - it's also hard to judge movies for me sometimes - because one has to distinguish how much you loved watching it and how good the episode/movie objectively is. Blackwater is the most fun episode and I think the best constructed one, whereas Rains is very well done and has my favorite performance but it's definitely not 'fun' since it's so heavy. The Children was a mess but I still gave it 10/10 for Stannis scenes alone

I'm wondering if they would have put the Jon, Mance, and Stannis scene from 4.10 at the end of 4.09, there would have been time in 4.10 for Tysha and Lady Stoneheart.

Yeah, Watchers on the Wall was shortest episode of the series so far, they definitely could have chose a better ending. The best endings in Season 4 were in The Lion and the Rose, The Laws of Gods and Men, and The Mountain and the Viper.

As much as I like Stannis, I think it was best to leave him for episode 10, otherwise he would steal all the glory from the Night's Watch. "You see these guys that spent the entire episode giving everything they got against impossible odds? Well, here comes Stannis Ex Machina to save their sorry asses. End credits."

That's the way it was in the books anyway.

Yeah, you're definitely right. I just thought the ending to 4.09 was weak.

If they had the Horn of Joramun in the show it would be a great ending if Mance appeared and gave an epic speech to his men saying "Tomorrow we'll bring the Wall down".

It was like having sex without climax. When the episode ended, I kept cursing at the screen. At least the endings to 5.01 - 5.04 are good.

I think it worked fine. My main gripe with the episode is that they didn't even have Mance show up ONCE in it. After the scythe came down and we saw some of the wildlings watching it from the edge of the forest, one of them should've been Mance. I guess Hinds is a busy guy or something.
They wanted to have a longer Jon-Mance convo in 410 that couldn't have fit into 409 really, so I get that choice. Now what I WON'T forgive is them spoiling the Stan-arrival in the previously-on. Now THAT was stupid. Whatever intern throws those things together should've been defenestrated after that.

Although they usually don't outright spoil what's going to happen, they tell you that something is going to happend related to that scene. Episode 4x10 recap, though, blatantly told people that Stannis was coming to save the Wall. Great job HBO.
