The Starks and Boltons do seem to have a lot of parallels, family is an important theme for both, although Boltons is the twisted form. Although, in some odd way, Roose is a better father for raising Ramsay up and legitimizing instead of sending him off to the Wall to rot.

But Ned sees Jon as his son. Roose sees Ramsay as his plaything what he can use to play Game of Thrones. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this would happen:

I wouldn't be surprised either. It's interesting that Roose does seem to be parenting Ramsay by reigning in his cruel tendencies, imparting wisdom "quiet people, peaceful lands," and giving him opportunities to shine a la Moat Cailin. Sure, he's abrupt with Ramsay, but sometimes fathers need to be, although preferably with less references to raping their mother.
It's one of the most interesting relationships in the series, and Roose is one of the harder characters to figure out where he's coming from and what his true feelings are, if he has any.

I was thinking the other day how the Boltons are the evil Starks. Think about it. There are a lot of similarities and contrasts between the two. Ned had a good friend (Robert) who brought him into a bad situation, his friend died and then Ned died. Roose had a non-friend (Robb, similarly named) who brought him into a bad situation, he killed his non-friend and he is still alive. Ned never told Jon Snow about his mother, which probably reveals about how much of a special snowflake Jon is. Jon dies. Roose tells Ramsay about his mother, which reveals how utterly common he is. Ramsay lives. Ned seems to appreciate Jon and includes him as part of the family. Roose has no choice; Ramsay is all he has...for now. Ned lets Cat treat Jon like the biggest third wheel ever, because of her irrational fear that Jon will try to usurp her own kids. Roose makes sure Ramsay is nice to Walda despite the fact that Walda's kid could be a threat to Ramsay. Jon may be the product of rape (probably not). Ramsay most certainly is. Jon lived a life of privilege. Ramsay had to climb the latter. (Okay, this is bookRamsay. Sue me!) Jon has a sword with his sigil on it given to him by a father figure. Ramsay's father figure (and real father) has his own flayed man sword and shows no interest in giving it to Ramsay. Ned married a beautiful woman from the Riverlands for political reasons. He grew to love her. Roose married a BBW from the Riverlands for political reasons. They have great sex. (again a bit bookish) Jon fell in love with Ygritte who was good with a bow. Ramsay uh...uses Myranda who seems decent with a bow. Ygritte was killed by someone who Jon considered an ally. Myranda was killed by someone he considered his slave. Jon has his direwolf Ghost. Ramsay has his bitches. Ned had Theon as a hostage, treated him well, and Theon turned on the Starks. Roose had Theon as a hostage, treated him poorly, and Theon turned on the Boltons. Theon is a traitor at heart. Ha! Wow. This is really good analysis. I also like how the Bolton's theme in the show is like "bastardized" version of the Stark theme. Also, SNOWBOWL!!! Yeah, and it's PERFECT! I feel such a narcissist because I can't stop watching my own video of the theme

Yeah, they shot Ramsay's legitimization as an opposite of Ned and Jon's departing. Stark version: Leaving Winterfell. You may not have my name, but you have my blood. I will tell you about your mom later. Now go off to that place where you don't matter to the politics of Westeros and be celibate. Bolton version: Arriving at Winterfell. Your name is Ramsay Bolton for the rest of your life. I will tell you about your mother soon. Now come join me as we become big players in the politics of Westeros. Also, I need you to make a kid. I also love the fact that the Bolton music is a dark version of the Stark theme.

I think Roose truly believed that "I would have drowned you, but I know that you are my son!" was a touching, fatherly moment.

As an aside, I also liked Stannis's theme there as well.
