It escapes me how so many people in the WOTW comments are doubting Jon's return. I would just tell them this. If Jon wasn't coming back, there would be no point at showing the Tower of Joy, all those hints at his parentage last season, and Sam saying, "Don't worry Olly, I've been worried about Jon for years. He always comes back." Which means that when Jon comes back, Olly better fucking run because he'll be Ghost's dinner. Yeah I'd have to say the Tower of Joy scene spoiler is probably the #1 evidence that Jon Snow is far from 'done' from the show entirely. What would be the point of wasting time on that story if the whole reason it happened is dead anyways? Non book readers won't have a clue about ToJ but all those people who post on WotW really should have a clue. I'm still not understanding why unsullied / no-spoiler people even read that site or post there to be honest. 95% of what WotW posts is heavy leaks and spoiler territory how can you NOT know all the resurrection evidence?

It is of course still possible that it is not Mel who resurrects him. She might, rather, be still relevant because of her visions and shadow baby making talents rather than her completely unproven resurrection abilities. She might not have the same talent as Thoros. Jon will almost certainly be back, but maybe not because Mel breathed fire into him.

We've guessed this already here but this connection between the two Mel shots in the trailer is new.

Well, who isn't these days. But I meant the bit of her stripping and then Davos putting the NW cloak around her. That seems like a sequence of events that fits.

That seems like a sequence of events that fits. So how does she remove her 'glamour' then - is it the ruby around her throat as many have suspected? Melisandre has stripped many times for various characters and has a youthful body to go along with her face as you well know from your avatar @konradsmith ... so if they are going to have her strip again, I at least want to know what magic she uses (in real life too Carice!).

I've been reluctant to guess that that was the "transformation" Carice's been talking about because outside of the Faceless Men I'm not too big on glamours as a plot device and I'm glad the show avoided them in s5. But it could be done well. If not to reveal that she's ancient it could be that she's actually got scars and tattoos from when she was a slave or something like that. Who the fuck knows. I guess we find out pretty soon though when info leaks from the premiere.

Personally I'm with you on the glamour thing needing omitted altogether. It works well in the books like many things, we're using our imagination. But on screen these sorts of things can look really hokey.

So what's the theories about Melisandre's past? She escaped the Doom of Valyria...somehow, sold into slavery, sold to a Red Temple, where R'hllor showed her the light and she somehow stayed alive for 400 years and uses magic to stay young looking....
I don't hate it, but I don't get it either. How would she stay alive for that long, and why glamour?

The bigger "Why" for me has always been why she came to Westeros and attached herself to Stannis in the first place. Was that ever explained anywhere? I mean you would think after 400 years she would have had some more solid leads on the real deal.

Right I knew she was hooked in via Selyse but I cannot recall there being an actual backstory to that or how she came to be supporting Stannis as "the One."

She saw a bunch of stuff in the flames that suggested Stannis was the chosen one but it was all about Jon because she can't read her own visions for shit.
