I mean, I hate what happened to Ros, Brotherhood Without Banners selling Gendry, and the terrible Meera v Osha stuff... but I love the climbing the Wall sequence. There are worse episodes, imo. So why do people hate it so much?

It just started too slowly is all. I still like it way better than ep. 302 and 310 and WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than ep. 307. And it's high points are better than much of eps. 301 and 303...but it just starts too slowly with that Sam and Gilly scene and then that Bran scene. From then on I like it, I just thought it could've flowed better.

I have no idea. It's a great episode. Structurally, it's one of the most complex and interesting episodes ever. We have the actual climb with Jon and the wildings climbing up The Wall, but we also have a metaphorical climb up the ladder of chaos. Every scene brings us closer to the true players in the game. It starts off with seemingly insignificant players like Sam or Bran, then it goes to Mel and the BwB and then even higher up the ladder with the Boltons. Next come Tywin, QoT, Cersei and Tyrion. We think this must be it. These are the true players. But then enter Littlefinger and Varys, the true masters of the game, in the last scene of the episode. LF gives his speech, revealing who is on top of the ladder and at the same time Jon and the Wildlings reach the top of The Wall. Nothing much happens in this episode, but the writing is top-notch. If only at some point they had introduced LSH, this episode would be considered to have so much fucking foreshadowing. Alas, still a great episode.

So why do people hate it so much? It's nowhere near my favorite episodes, but it's Ok. The Bear and the Maiden Fair was way worst. In fact, I think that 201, 202, 302, 307 and 506 are the show's worst episodes so far.

Haven't seen The Bear And The Maiden Fair in a while... but I remember that terrible castration scene and it being kinda boring, and the Margaery x Sansa stuff was cringeworthy. What problems did you have with the episode?

You have just named the two scenes that I really hated in that episode. They were boring, cringeworthy and over the top. The rest of the episode was very boring too. The only redeeming scene was Jaime and Brienne in the Bear Pit. The Jaime and Brienne arc was great in Season 3, I miss seeing those two together... Luckily they will cross paths again in Season 6.

I don't understand how anyone could hate this classic scene:

I remember really liking the Jon and Ygritte scene on top of the Wall, but it seemed to get a lot of criticism when it aired. I guess I'm sappy.

I remember really liking this episode so i dont know I guess the bran stuff may have been boring and i think they misused his screentime in season 3 (except the stuff at the wall bumping into sam) and perhaps a little slow. But every episode needs these moments. And LFs speech at the end is the best dialogue hes ever had imo. The one time after season 1 where i could stand his accent.

I think The Climb is an amazing episode. The monologue Littlefinger gives is one of the best in the show, I think.

I don't think it's a bad episode at all, and I also don't hate The Bear and the Maiden Fair as much as everyone else does. Though I was really disappointed that the "I dreamed of you" line didn't make it in.

Though I was really disappointed that the "I dreamed of you" line didn't make it in. I thought the Climb was the weakest of season 3...but honestly probably better than half of season 4 and season 5 episodes. I do not share people's hate of The Bear and the Maiden Fair.
