The literature subforum is way too quiet in comparison to other parts of the forum and I would like to change that. So let me introduce you to The UTHT Book Club. The basic idea is we read books together in order to discuss them afterwards. We could have alternating reading and discussion weeks. This way we could read two books in a month (depending on the length of the particular book of course). Before we start, I need to know if anyone is interested?

yes only if i can pick every single book You can't. But every member that wants to participate gets to make suggestions of course. We'll find a way to make it fair. I can organize this.

Everyone can make a suggestion and you could make a poll. p.s I'm not saying if I'm in or not, I don't like to commit to things.

Has anybody read The Saxon Stories/Saxon Chronicles yet? I started reading the first book a couple years ago and it was pretty good, but I've been extremely lazy lately and never got to finish it. Might be a good series of books for us to discuss, especially if you've seen the new TV show.

I'd be interested, but like Zadeth, I don't really like committing to things, so I can't promise that I'm going to read every book, especially if it ends up being something that I'm simply not interested in.

Might be a good series of books for us to discuss, especially if you've seen the new TV show. I've read some of them, they are good; quick, easy reads. Book one and two are a bit similar for my taste. I'm up yo about #5 at this point I think. I would recommend The Warlord Trilogy over them though. Just recently finished it and it's absolutely brilliant, a very interesting take on the Arthurian legend. It's far better that his Saxon Stories, though like I say they are good too. Enemy of God has jumped to the list of my top 10 favourite books. As as for the book club, I would be interested, although there may be weeks I can't participate for various reasons - time, money (damnit student budget!) etc. But I would definitely like to try this. I like pretty much any genre and I'm always happy to reread stuff so I will be pleased with more or less any pick. I might suggest though that for each week you try and place some limit (like maybe a certain genre each week?) so as to keep the recommendation list manageable. Or just make a long list at the start and slowly work our way through it.

I like the idea, I just don't know if I'd be able to commit to it.

I missed this thread. It's good idea, I think starting with stand alone books might be better for people as the commitment won't be too burdensome. My friend told me about Seveneves by Neal Stepheson. I think this would appeal to a more general audience.
