New here so I don't know whether this has been asked. But what battle did you prefer? With Hardhome, I'm just talking about the battle, so not the Cersei, Arya, etc elements.

I think Blackwater was the better episode overall, mainly because of all the Cersei/Sansa scenes, but if we're just talking about the battle, Hardhome was the most exciting thing they've ever done on the show, in my opinion - and the one redeeming quality of S5 for me.

Hardhome was pretty dope if I'm being honest.

As a whole, I'd say Blackwater is a better episode. But if we only consider the action scenes, well, Hardhome is by far and away the best battle I have ever seen on a TV show.

Even though I think Blackwater was a stronger episode, Hardhome was definitely the most intensifying and thrilling sequence they've done on the show so far and it left me with fucking chills at the end.

Also have to go with Hardhome as the best battle sequence.

I love all three episodes. They are all in my top 10. Best battle is definitely Hardhome, though. Best episode... I don't know I feel like I should say Blackwater, but I do love the entire Hardhome episode...

Blackwater's the best one. I don't even think Hardhome and Watchers on the Wall are the best eps. of their respective seasons tbh. Still very strong but Blackwater felt like a milestone to me. Plus it made s2 worth it and renewed my faith in the show after eps. like 201, 202 and 208 seriously made my then-unsullied self contemplate not watching anymore. It won me over at the exact right time. And it was in looking up information about the end credit song that the RW was first spoiled for me IIRC. Which actually made me more into the show because I couldn't wait to see that twist unfold on-screen. Speaking of which, the Rains of Castamere is still the only episode I like more than Blackwater.

I wouldn't call hardhome a battle, but it was the best sequence in season 5 for sure.
Blackwater was better i think because of the characters involved. But i would say Watchers on the Wall is the best battle they have done from a strictly cinematic pov. Its pretty hard to say!

I understand that Blackwater had more compelling characters with Tyrion, Cersei, and Stannis. But Watchers on the Wall was miles better from a cinematic perspective. Nothing in Blackwater approaches the moment when Grenn and the others recite the Night's Watch oath in the tunnel as the Giant rushes them. And I'm a hardcore Stannis fan and while his moments in Blackwater were epic, I have to consider my bias. I feel nothing for Grenn to be honest, and I was deeply moved by that sequence. Very well done by the cast and crew.

I think "The Children" had a good pace, but "Mother's Mercy" was cliffhanger madness. Which I didn't mind. It's pacing reminded me of ep. 210 the most, though I liked 510 itself much better because of the events it covered.

It's really Lena that steals that episode.
