Great show! They are moving incredibly fast with the story. Are they trying to cover the whole series in one season? Anyway, when is the next episode due? Episodes air on Saturday nights.

I think they're still on the first book, so at that rate I doubt they're trying to do 9 books inn 8 eps. But it feel like a lot of page time was probably flown through in the pilot. In particular, Uhtred's change from slave to adopted son must have happened a lot more gradually, I'd assume.

They're only a third of the way through the first book, and the books aren't really long like ASoIaF books. Uhtred goes from a slave--more of a pet--to Uhtred Ragnarsson pretty much as on the show, but they cut stuff from the second episode, mostly to get to Alfred. The branch in Storri's arse is new.

The Beeb really nailed the characterization for Alfred and Brida. They did well to omit some of the atrocities that Uhtred found funny in his youth. I also like how they changed the story of his sword. In the book, a pagan smith escaped from Bebanburg and attached himself to Ragnar's band. The smith made the sword while Uhtred was still a teenager, but he had told Uhtred all about paganism while Uhtred was still in Bebanburg. Uhtred considers himself a pagan, but he makes a point of praying to all of the gods including the Christian God before battle. He's really an opportunist.

Great episode. I like the slower pace this one had. Some things still happen too suddenly, like out of nowhere. The build up for Young Ragnar's return was weak and he just randomly appears alone in the woods. Didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Did they not cast Bjorn or Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye?

Oh and Leofric will be a good addition. He and Uhtred have many adventures. evenstar refers to him as the first of bros though there is another character who helps Uhtred become the Sword of the Saxons. We won't meet that character for a few seasons.

Did they not cast Bjorn or Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye? Were those in the books? I never got too far into the first book and the only other "son of Ragnar" I remember is Ivar the Boneless.

Did they not cast Bjorn or Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye? This show does not feature the mythical Ragnar Lothbrok. Ubba and Ivar the Boneless are in the show because they lead the historical great heathen army. Cornwell takes great license with placing historical things in different contexts. Lots of people seem to expect that this show will be another Vikings. The Last Kingdom has its owns source material, and it takes place two centuries after Vikings IIRC.

No they're not in the books. Ubba and Ivar are called "Lothbrokson" in the books, and Cornwell moved them forward in history.

I've only watched Vikings the first season I wasn't aware how much difference (if any) is between the events the Vikings's story tells and the ones on The Last Kingdom. Never realized you actually watched Vikings either
