I started reading after Season 1. I've read AGoT four times, ACoK four also, ASoS four too, AfFC three and ADwD once. I'm doing a re-read now, reading combination of AFfC and ADwD. Good Lord! You must have whole chapters memorized! I think the vacation in Paris and the new car both go to you. I've read all five, but was late on the scene, never heard of them until 2011. But once I started I finished all five in 2 and 1/2 months. Then I discovered it had been made into a TV show, so I promptly signed up for HBO and watched a recap of season 1. Have reread AGOT once and started the first novella but got sidetracked before I finished. Reread parts of ASOS during tv season 3, and have reread parts of AFFC and ADWD for this season.

I've read all five books. I really enjoy AGOT, ACOK and ASOS, I think they are great. They have a good pace, the POVs are interesting, the world Martin created was complex and gritty but still enjoyable and they are simply addictive, especially when you read them for the first time. I couldn't let go of them after I finished.
Now, AFFC and ADWD are not as good IMO, I understand that ASOS was a real game-changer and it was necessary to have a more quite book to present the new status-quo, but depending on the POV the slow pace can be too slow. It still has some great storylines, but is a mixed bag for me. And the same happens with ADWD, it has some really great stuff like the chapters in the North, but others were hard for me to read (Dany, Quentyn and even Tyrion at times) and there are missed opportunities like sending Jon to Hardhome (which thanks to the show we have seen it would have been epic), or cutting both the battle of Winterfell and the battle of Meeren, which gave the feeling that those storylines didn't reach a natural conclusion or a point in which things are going to change, it just felt like we were left hanging until TWOW comes out.
I don't know if anyone else agrees, but dividing the POVs in two books that happen at the same time was a mistake, I think AFFC and ADWD should have been one book with a faster pace and not so many new POVs.

Oh I agree. I think it was a disaster, actually. I like AFFC save for Sam's chapters and Brienne in the middle, but ADWD was just a mess. I get that he likes Tyrion so he enjoys writing from his POV, but Tyrion did not need so many fucking chapters in that book. Nor did Jon, for that matter, or even Dany. Quentyn should not have existed, and that would have saved us his 4 chapters and maybe one of Barry's. The rest was fine, but all of that fluff should have been excised way back in 2006 or something, then perhaps there would have been room for the BoI/BoF.

I agree dividing the POVs was a mistake. I can't imagine how fans felt at the time having to wait so long to figure out what Dany, Davos, and Bran were doing by the time DwD came out.
And all those Greyjoy chapters in FfC.....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I should read them again, but I'm way too lazy and get sad when I think about all the bad things that happen to my Stark babies. I also didn't enjoy Dance much, it had some great chapters like Theon's and some of Jon's, and I enjoyed the time Tyrion spent with Griff and company, but the rest of his chapters and almost all of Dany's were a chore. But of course that's just my opinion

But of course that's just my opinion I partially read them and partially listened to the audiobook version I should say. I really enjoyed them especially a Feast for Crows, even though it seems to be the least favourite book for most people. Just loved the whole Oldtown stuff(hope they will show more of it in the show) and the inner craziness of Cersei. The only thing I didn't like about it are the Brienne chapters. I find them to be unnecessarily long and very boring at times. As for Dance I agree with you. In my opinion there are simply too many minor characters, whose plot lines I didn't particularly care about, for example Quentyn, Victarion,... I find the Reek chapters very interesting, though really uncomfortable to read sometimes. Poor guy The only problem I have with the books is that its really hard to stay on top of things since there are sooo many different characters. ( at least for me, because I read them in english and its not my first language)

Poor guy The only problem I have with the books is that its really hard to stay on top of things since there are sooo many different characters. ( at least for me, because I read them in english and its not my first language) Yeah, keeping track of all the characters and plots in the books is a full-time job, even GRRM had to use fact-checkers for his own books, don't worry about that. AFFC has some good elements, just like you, I had a great time reading Cersei's chapters and Arya is my favourite character, so I enjoyed her chapters too (although Arya could just sit in a chair for a whole book and I'd like it ), Brienne's chapters are not so bad if you read one right after the other, it feels like a little novella, but they are still too long and the main reason they don't work IMO is because you know she is not going to find Sansa or Arya. Of course that's not the point of her chapters, but is still frustrating as hell. I'm one of those who thinks the last two books are not as good as the others, ASOS is my favourite, despite being also the most depressing one if you're a Stark fan. I think is normal not to care much about the new characters, some of them are interesting and engaging, but is hard to compete with characters you've known for several books. I loathe the Greyjoys except for Asha and Theon, although I admit that Victarion sample chapter was creepy and made me want to know what happens to him next.
