I'm just curious about the book:unsullied ratio we have here. I expect it to skew quite heavily towards all of the books, but I've made it multiple choice so you can choose up to 5 answers just so people who have read some but not all can specify which ones they've read.

I'm not even sure if there's any Unsullied here except Jack Bauer 24, and if I remember correctly, he has started reading the books.

Each of the five.
And the D&E novellas. Additionally, "The Ice Dragon".
"The Princess and the Queen" as well.

I've read them but only once. I started to re-read AGOT but I got too busy and never finished

Well, I've read them all. Once in german and several times in english.
I haven't read any of the novellas though, nor have I read The World of Ice and Fire. Although I do own a physical copy and it is a beautiful book with amazing art, I'm just not that much into Targaryen history, which seems to be like 90 percent of that book's content.

Ah, TWoIaF is also in my bookshelf. And I'm deep into the Targ history - although I must admit that I have already read the part about the Westerlands and Aerys II. Lannister fanboy all along. I never picked up the German translation.

Did you guys read the books before the TV series started or was it after a specific season that you started reading them?

I started the show one semester right before exams started and I got caught up to I think the third episode of the third season. I went and bought the set the next weekend and started them.

^^^ Oohh good question for everyone!
I started the books after watching Season 1. I remember I watched all of it On Demand because I didn't watch it when it aired for some reason (I think I thought it would be a LOTR rip-off so I didn't watch it out of spite lol). After that I ran out and got the 1-4 book combo. I think ADWD just came out at that point? Read all of them before season 2 aired! Good times...nothing topped that LSH reveal for me. The chills!

My mother had brought me the books some time ago, but I wasn't so interested about them when I got them. I read the first book and fell in love with the idea. Then after the first book, I watched season 1. After book 2, I watched season 2 and then before season 3 read ASOS and AFFC. Then I brought ADWD and read it before season 4.

Funny enough, book!Tyrion looks still different from show!Tyrion when I do a re-read. I'm glad about that, tbh. Shows that my fantasy's still working.

Although I hadn't seen any of the TV series at all, but knew it would be my kind of thing and I wanted to get into it, but felt I should read the books first. All of my friends love it as well but I'm the only one who bothered to read the books LOL.

I started reading after Season 1. I've read AGoT four times, ACoK four also, ASoS four too, AfFC three and ADwD once. I'm doing a re-read now, reading combination of AFfC and ADwD.

Yeah I read the AGOT and ACOK after Season 2 aired, but then didn't read ASOS until Season 3 ended so I was unsullied for The Red Wedding. Then I read a combination of AFFC and ADWD during the summer last year and it was a pretty interesting way to read it. There was no way they would have split those books across 2 seasons because I don't think it would have made for good television. And despite all the book changes in the show, I've come to appreciate both.

I've read them all. The last three I read twice and I occasionally flip through all of them to reference stuff.

Read them all. And all of them several times. Except for the first Dunk & Egg story, I've not read any of the other ancillary material, though.

I read them after after seeing some bits of Season 3 on German free TV, since they air it always in some kind of binge-watch marathon. That was in February? March? of 2014, I read the whole series in English (I'm not gonna pay the price for the German translation, it also annoys me af that they change names), watched Season 1-4 afterwards. Then I did a re-read because I didn't know what to do until season 5.
