I love them all equally, but if I had to rank them:
ASoS > AGoT > ACoK > AFfC > ADwD

ASOS! "Stannis! Stannis! Stannis!"
Some other stuff happened too, of minor import.
I didn't like ADWD and AFFC, too fractured. ACOK and Game of Thrones are on the same level I think.
As far as povs go, even though thats not the discussion! Ned was the best in AGOT, Arya, Cat and Tyrion were great too Cat was the best in ACOK, Arya and Davos were also up there Jaime was the best in ASOS, though he made up for this by being awful in AFFC Cersei was the best in AFFC, Vic was a close second, the rest bored me Davos was the best in ADWD, followed by Tyrion

I loved Jaime, Ironborn and KL in AFfC. Didn't care so much about Arya, Brienne and Sansa. Sam's travel was boring. Dorne was shit.

for some reason i can re-read AFFC many many times but the others i struggle with a bit, especially ASOS even though its awesome. i love re-reading the northern stories in ADWD but bored by pretty much everything else except bran's last chapter and arya's chapters.

Jaime's AFfC storyline is better than his ASoS storyline, imo. I loved it. And I also enjoyed Brienne's stuff, the atmosphere in some of her chapters is so twisted and creepy, I loved the build-up to her eventual confrontation with Lady Stoneheart.

Especially Nimble Dick's stories. I fully expected to find the whispering heads or the boy-eating frog monster thingies.

ASOS > ADWD > AGOT > ACOK > AFFC
I love them all but to be honest, AFFC was quite dull.

Yeh GRRM seems to put these repetitive things in his chapters. like everyone has a sort of 'mantra'. i kind of like it because its sort of how the mind really works. we tend to repeat lines to ourselves all the time. But it does get annoying to read i must admit, i didn't mind this line so much for Jaime because it is so crucial to his character and who he though he was all his life.

ASOS > AGOT > ACOK > ADWD > AFFC.
I love them all for diferent reasons, but I guess we mostly agree on ASOS being the essential ASOIAF book. So many huge moments, not a single dull POV...

Yeah, you're right, although I find "Wherever whores go" and "Words are Wind" and "If I look back I'm lost" more annoying than "she's been fucking..."

I'm always a bit torn between ASOS and AFFC as my favorite, but I'll go with AFFC this time. The more you read it, the more you realise how rich and deep it is. It also focuses on four of my faves (Brienne, Jaime, Sansa, Cersei) , and draws/ furthers the parallels between them. So :
AFFC ASOS ADWD ACOK AGOT
