There have been some contrast with images between the White Walkers and Daenerys. The whole Ice & Fire, Death and Life motif is very much present in the series, I believe. With last nights episode we saw once again a contrast between the Other's story and Dany's. We see once again the contrast between the stillness and coldness of death and the movement and warmth of life. ^^ Really good catch @moiaf! Thanks! I think all the symbolism surrounding Dany as a mother is very important. Mother's bring life into the world. But there is also the dragon within Dany which can also represent death, so Dany also has a life and death balance she struggles with. To take that further I've always see House Targaryen's house words as a representation of Life and Death, both Fire and Blood can representative of life or death. |

Beautiful, beautiful images, moiaf, and great juxtaposition. The Life/Death/Life circle/cycle also reminds me of what I think we will experience in the whole AFOIAF series. It begins in Summer (with Robert describing to Ned how sensuous the women are with their dresses plastered to them in the heat), and then after the long winter, we'll end up in Spring, with an end to the Long Night and the rebirth of hope and all of nature. The spiral, one of the most common shapes found in nature and one of the most ancient, often symbolizes the unfolding of that which is hidden. Dragons were hidden (indeed thought to be extinct) for years and years and years, while The Others were hidden under the ice and snow for even longer.
