OMG. On the one hand I'm like: "YES! Dear God, YES!! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!" But then I'm thinking, this can be screwed up so easily. All they need to do is to involve or make references to all that Compilation garbage - and also wind up the melodrama to make it feel more like Anime, and it would probably be ruined for me. I'm hopeful, though. And knowing Square, this won't be released before 2025, so there is time to get used to the idea of a FF7 remake.

FF7 Remake! But I have the same worries as you, BasilBut my main worry is the actual gameplay, especially the battle system. I'm sure Square will have to modernize and change it, but I really don't want an action-RPG or any similarities to any hack'n'slay whatsoever. Furthermore, they can't abandon the materia-system, it's not just part of the battle system, but also a crucial part of the story itself.

I'm sure they will implement the materia system in some way or another, but is it going to be as versatile and complex as in the original game, that's a whole different question.
I really don't think they'll turn FF7 into a full blown Action-RPG or, R'hllor forbid, a Hack & Slash. But there is no way it's going to be a classical, turn-based RPG either. I'm guessing they'll make it into some sort of hybrid, probably. But honestly, as long as the Battle System feels at least faithful and doesn't lack the complexity of the original game, I'm happy.
Honestly, I'm much more worried about the story and the presentation. Just imagine, if during that particular, famous death scene of that one character, they use some sort of J-Pop song instead of ... her theme. That would be fucking horrendous. Or if Cloud would constantly talk about how one has to "embrace his dreams", just like freaking Zack did in Crisis Core. It would be so easy for Square Enix to screw this up.
And please, for the Love of God, Square Enix, don't fucking dare change the Soundtrack.
In any case, this is a Day-One purchase for sure.

At last, people can stop demanding a remake from Squeenix!
I don't really much care about FFVII myself. I never enjoyed any of the pre-X games that much, but I will definitely pick this up.

I'm so happy I could fly.
I played FF7 for the first time back in...2009? The graphics were very old for the time and I wasn't sure I'd like it. But sure enough 80-100 hours later I said yup, this is good. It is the game that made me like FF, RPGs in general. And its still my favorite genre.
That being said I want the look of FFXV but the gameplay of...not FFXV. A good mix of FFXIII and something more modern. I would love turn based but I doubt that's happening. I just want a command menu and I'll be happy.
Story I'm not worried about per say unless they change too much. I'm just VERY worried about the voice acting. VERY. Just chain after chain of bad for them lately. I'm praying in the Forbidden Forrest (which will look beautiful) for a Japanese voice track.

I was totally in the mood for FF7 earlier today, because of this announcement, so I've started New Game on the original PS1-Version and I've been playing for a few hours now. It's still such a great game, though. Sure, the graphics are ugly as hell, but there is something so endearing about them too. And the soundtrack is just so freaking great, Uematsu is a genius. Anyways, I was just wondering if and how they're going to do the 'Honey Bee Inn' scene in the remake. You know, the scene where Cloud enters a brothel in the slums and is basically gang banged by a bunch of naked bodybuilders with mustaches.

The bolded part was the first thing I thought when I heard the announcement today. And about FF7 in general... I would even go a step further and say that FF7 is my favourite video game ever and it has been ever since I first played it in 1998 when I was 9 years old. The story is the deepest, most philosophical, suspensful thing I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy in a video game. The only other game that comes close in terms of story depth is the Silent Hill franchise, IMO. The second best Final Fantasy instalment was FF9 for me. Maybe I should create a FF-thread.
