So, it seems per Elio and Linda's review of the first 4 episodes that we're going to see three instances of backstories/history lessons--just in the first 4 episodes. Presumably, there will be further delving into the rich and violent history of our GoT characters in more S5 episodes.
I'm intrigued that the show-only viewers will finally get some glimpses into the backstories behind current events in Westeros. How thorough will those 'glimpses' be? Will they be detailed enough to bring show-only viewers up to speed with book readers (well, as much as possible) as to how past events led to current events?
This is the thread to discuss the backstory and history lessons in S5, that we're about to see brought to the screen!

I actually thought if Stannis talks with Shireen about her greyscale and the Stonemen, aso. this could maybe qualify as a "history lesson"? (History of the disease, Shireen as infant, aso.)

Could be, could be. I think it's going to be fascinating as the 'history lessons' unfold throughout the season. Surely, they haven't included 3 history lessons over 4 episodes, only to never have another for the rest of the season. I believe this is the season that the whole backstory begins rolling out, bit by bit, and I'm thrilled!

Well, one of those backstories is obviously Maggy the Frog's prophecy concerning Cersei.

That young lady who played YoungCersei really nailed the part, IMO. She came across just as arrogant, haughty and aggressive as adult Cersei herself, even displayed Lena's physical mannerisms. I predict she's already being considered for other parts after that fine performance. It'll be interesting to see where her new career goes from here!
