Note that this poll is only for the books and doesn't include Stannis burning Shireen, what won't happen in the books.
My pick is Mannis.

You asked this too close on the tail of him burning his daughter alive for me, sorry. This is about the books, so Stannis doing it does not happen. Which is exactly why I gave the answer I did. The show reaction is coming too soon on what I felt / understood from the books and from here on out that will be the case for everything so I have a difficult time making choices when the lines have been blurred between the books and the show. Hope that clarifies.

Isn't one of the main points of the series that picking sides like this is a destructive waste of time?
That said I've always found Stan and Dany to be very similar characters. Neither were meant to be their families' heirs, they both listen to their advisors well, they both burn people frequently, they're both stubborn and can be quite harsh... and both, I think, will become fervent R'hollorites. I think Dany will be convinced that she's AA (by Benerro or Moqorro or someone) when she takes Volantis and will do some Stannis-like things because of that.
And both are very morally grey figures at times whose fans are a bit too kind about them. I love them both though, in the books and the show.

omgosh its neck and neck!
i'd pick Dany because she inspires more devotion than Stannis. But i think Stannis would be just as good a ruler.

Hard choice, both of them have their pros and cons.
Stannis knows Westeros very well, he knows the problems the country faces, he knows the ruling class, he is an amazing commander, he thinks being a king is his duty and he takes that responsibility seriously. He wants to protect the realm and everyone who lives there, and he is the only king who has listened to the Night's Watch cries for help and knows the White Walkers are real and coming for them. But he is also very uncompromising, he never meets people half-way, which can be a big problem in a ruler. Honestly, I think Stannis would be a good leader in time of war, but his iron will wouldn't make him the best ruler for peace. And there is the thing with the red priestess that wants to destroy every religion in Westeros and force everyone to believe in R'hllor. BookStannis may not be a believer, but he allows Mel's tactics and that is a big NO for me.
Daenerys cares about the common people more than any other ruler we have seen in Asoiaf, she knows how they feel and how hard their lives are. She is also kind and can reach a compromise if she has to, but she can be ruthless too. I think she could become a good ruler with time. But she doesn't know anything about Westeros or its people, the little information she has was given by Viserys, and even though she knows her brother was not a good source of knowledge, she still shares some his ideas. She thinks the common people will love her as soon as she arrives, but we know that may not be true, she thinks everyone who joined Robert's Rebellion was a traitor and a dog, she doesn't like to hear bad things about her family even though she needs to learn how things actually were if she wants to avoid making the same mistakes. Long story short, she still has a lot to learn about Westeros.
So, right now, as things are in the books, I think Stannis is a better choice simply because he knows the country and he knows the problems he has to deal with. But if Dany learns more about Westeros and the people, if she listens to the people willing to explain her how the rebellion started and realizes the Targaryen weren't blameless in all the mess, she would be my choice.

Stannis. He knows more about Westeros and it's people. Not to say that Dany can't learn but I don't see her being willing to (book version).

Daenerys, especially after last week.
I just want the Starks to be involved. I want Jon to do something significant and be attached to the winner in a positive way.
