One of the most fascinating things about how they've portrayed Stannis this season were the moments of compassion and humanity they gave him with Shireen in comparison to his stubborn and often frustrating leadership personality. The scene we all loved, juxtaposed over what we had to endure in 5x09 is a heart-wrenching contradiction the show writers set us up for and most of us denied was really going to happen. I really did not think they'd go through with what had been foreshadowed. I held out hope for Shireen despite all the theories over the years from those who thought she was a goner. I guess I had hoped for a happy ending for her as much as I hoped for a happy ending for most of the 'kids' we watched grow up in the story.
Warning, this video will break your heart all over again but is amazingly well edited. It's by Ozzy Man (known for his hilarious but spot-on reviews) and it's not even funny. I cried again, dammit. You have been warned.

"By the time we burned the doll, it was too late" as Shireen sees the pyre for the first time gave me chills. I'm so sad today.

I cannot even fucking look at Stannis' face now :/ Can't believe they did this to us. It was the one thing I knew I wouldn't be able to accept. We were all so sure he wouldn't let it happen. If anyone needs me I'll be in denial that book Stannis would do this until TWOW comes out and proves me right. |

I hadn't noticed in the episode that Stannis closes his eyes. That's a tiny bit better I suppose, though it'll largely go unnoticed because no one will ever willingly watch this scene again.
