As per GRRMs original outline, Dany is in it for the long haul and I genuinely don't understand why there would be any doubt there. She is not going to die fighting an irrelevant Iron Born or a late-game antagonist like fAegon. She will die in the North, beyond the Wall, fighting the Others. Original outline is not a reliable source. Dany could fight the Others. And even if she will, it won't be beyond the Wall, unless she dies in TWoW. She is not dying in TWOW.

Then if she fights the Others, I doubt it will be Beyond the Wall. I suppose the Others will break the Wall and she'd fight them somewhere. If the White Walkers never go souther than the Wall, I will puke.

The ending is supposed to be bittersweet. To me that means, the goods guys win but we lose some players late in the game. I do think it's possible Daenerys survives the whole thing.

i think all the originals will make it i honestly don't think any of them will die unless in the epilogue saying how all of them died in the end.
but i'd say dany and sansa are most likely to go in my mind

I stopped considering that particular quote foreshadowing after the letter with the original plot leaked. He probably wrote that chapter with the original story still in mind, and in that one Arya survives. Wishful thinking perhaps, but it lets me sleep at night Oh, I think I'm missing some basic fan info here. What letter with the original plot? What happens in the original plot? Who, what, when?

This is great. Many thanks! I'd be really happy to have Tyrion, Dany, Jon, Arya, and Bran all survive.

I have a feeling that Arya will die by the series' end. There has been death and tragedy surrounding her POV from the start and she has been going down a dark path bent on revenge. That pulled quote about her still clutching Needle when the snow thaws out is ominous given the context of this thread too.
I can see Dany going too. It seems poetic that the last Targaryen, who cannot birth children anymore, would perish along with the family name and left to the history books.
Tyrion is my last guess, although I only think that because I believe only one of the three main Lannister children will be left alive by the series' end to carry on the family name. Tyrion could live and try to rebuild its name and reputation since Tywin's, or maybe it will be Jaime as a part of his quest for honor.

That pulled quote about her still clutching Needle when the snow thaws out is ominous given the context of this thread too. I can see Dany voting it too. Tyrion could live and try to rebuild its name and reputation since Tywin's, or maybe it will be Jaime as a part of his quest for honor. I think you're probably right that there will only be one Lannister who survives the series, and my money is on Tyrion, too. (Which just triggered for me his line in 5.10 last night which asserted just that.) It would be nice if Dany survived, after all she has been through to 'get there', but somehow I don't think she will. I can see her perishing alongside Drogon at some point in the final battle. It's the Stark kids I'm most concerned about. I'd love to have them all survive, but I don't think they will. I can barely stand to even consider this, but it may be up to Bran and Rickon from ADOS on out. I'd really, really like for Arya to survive - and Jon -- please, please, please, George! They're my two favorites, but we know with ASOIAF we rarely (ever?) get our wishes.

I too think only one of the Lannister siblings survives.
It's either Jaime or Tyrion.
Cersei's death is set in stone.

Where in the first book? Do you remember the general location or situation? Somebody's dream, I'm thinking - ? It's in Arya's 1st chapter in AGoT. "Jon watched them leave, and Arya watched Jon. His face had grown as still as the pool at the heart of the godswood. Finally he climbed down off the window. "The show is done," he said. He bent to scratch Ghost behind the ears. The white wolf rose and rubbed against him. "You had best run back to your room, little sister. Septa Mordane will surely be lurking. The longer you hide, the sterner the penance. You'll be sewing all through winter. When the spring thaw comes, they will find your body with a needle still locked tight between your frozen fingers.""Holy shit! I've been around the fandom for a long time, read the books several times (except for Clash) and I've NEVER made this connection. I don't know if I should thank you or not  because the only ones I was 100% sure Martin won't kill were Bran, Arya and Tyrion.

I too think only one of the Lannister siblings survives. It's either Jaime or Tyrion. Cersei's death is set in stone. Jaime and Cersei will most likely die together in some bitter sweet death. Wildfire burning KL down is a possibility. Jaime fails to stop Cersei and burns with her.

I picked the big three, Tyrion, Jon, and Dany, likely all going out in heroic glory. Dany can have a surprise baby to continue the line or some shit.
I really don't see how Jon's joke about Arya sewing through winter is more ominous than Sansa losing Lady, but whatevs. I think all three Starklings have to make it, though I'm most worried for Sansa.
The golden incest twins should go out in a blaze together, IA. At the very least, if I'm right about Tyrion, I don't want Jaime to survive after his siblings and kids have all been killed.

Voted Tyrion and Dany. Surprised she has so many votes over Tyrion. I think he'll have to pay for killing his father eventually. Kinslayer and all that.
The others are pretty safe I think. Jon won't die again. Arya and Bran are the safest probably. I don't think Sansa will die but that's possible.

Out of curiosity, what makes Lady's death ominous for Sansa? GRRM said that the direwolves are relevant to the Stark kids and their futures, and Lady is dead, which is not the best of signs.

I hope GRRM goes a different route with that.
