An interesting (and admittedly quite subjective) list of the 10 Most Hated GoT characters, from thestar.com
10 Most Hated Characters
10. Jaime Lannister, Child-Maimer Version: He pushed the littlest Stark out a tower window. He was arrogant and callous (not to mention incestuous). And did we mention? He pushed the littlest Stark out a tower window.
9. Meryn Trant and Janos Slynt (tie):GoT’s faces of institutional corruption. Trant is a bullying slug preying on the weak as a high-ranking Kingsguard; Slynt is a devious and cowardly former police chief in exile. Their deaths will be cheered.
8. Roose Bolton: An ex-ally of Ned Stark, Bolton replaced him as ruler after conspiring with the Lannisters and Freys to carry out the Red Wedding massacre. Murdered Robb Stark after delivering legendary “The Lannisters send their regards” line. Ninety-nine-and-44-100ths pure scum.
7. Melisandre (a.k.a. “The Red Woman”): Priestess of the Lord of Light’s duties include speaking in cryptic verse reminiscent of carny psychic, bearing homicidal shadow children and evoking a general sense of malignant unease.
6. Gregor Clegane (a.k.a. “The Mountain”): As a child, hulking brute shoved his young brother Sandor’s face into fire for using his toys. As an adult, ogre popped beloved Oberyn Martell’s head like a water balloon, scarring viewers forever. And alchemy has kept him alive for Season 5. GoT’s Frankenstein’s monster.
5. Grand Maester Pycelle: Adviser to the Iron Throne has stayed in that position for decades thanks to his cunning and willingness to be a toady to power. Consummate Yes Man turns on anyone who can’t threaten him, including Ned Stark and Tyrion. Thoroughly despicable.
4. Walder Frey: A crotchety old weirdo fringe character in Season 1, Frey commits GoT’s most abominable crime in Season 3 when his forces massacre King Robb Stark, his pregnant wife, Stark’s mother Catelyn and hundreds of others in the infamous Red Wedding. Gleefully vile.
3. Petyr Baelish (a.k.a. Littlefinger): Brothel owner/low-level nobleman rose to power by acquiring intelligence on friends and foes, and betraying allies as often and casually as you use turn signals when driving. And it looks like he’ll corrupt Sansa Stark this year. A weasel personified.
2. Ramsay Bolton: After Joffrey’s and Tywin’s deaths, Roose Bolton’s bastard son became GoT’s most heinous figure via his sadistic, psychotic torture of poor Theon Greyjoy/Reek. This season, Ramsey is even more powerful, ruling the North alongside his awful dad. The worst of the worst. Be afraid.
1. Cersei Lannister: Unencumbered by human emotions like empathy and compassion, Cersei is the mastermind behind the murders. All of them. She’s a Machiavellian grandmaster and the spike in the decapitated head of anyone opposing her or who is aware of her incestuous secret.
Some fun labels in there--gleefully vile, the worst of the worst, thoroughly despicable. But, Cersei even more hated than Ramsay? Never!

I don't even think that Jaime is in the top 10 anymore, he's redeeming himself! Roose perhaps should be higher, but on the other hand, he's quite an epic villain. IMO Ramsay should be number 1 and perhaps Walder has number 2.

Not even Ramsay or Joffrey.

Bran isn't the littlest Stark! But I think most of the people on this list are probably close to the consensus RE: the most hated. Melisandre being on that list makes me sad though I find it hilarious that George had to give her her own POV just to show people that she isn't a malevolent psycho and she actually does have good intentions. She's just stupid and can't read the flames properly, or has no reason to assume Jon Snow may be AAR, hence not even thinking of interpreting her flames that way. I also read a theory that suggested she went to Dragonstone initially because her AAR visions were showing her Dany-related stuff from the past, and she thought it was from the present. [/rambling] Sorry. Uh, yeah I would agree with most on that list, apart from Mel. Jaime is redeeming himself, but I don't think he's quite there yet. I also really wouldn't put Cersei at #1. She hasn't been the mastermind behind anything past season 1, has she? Season 2 was all Joffrey, season 3 was all Tywin and season 4 I don't think she really schemed anything at all. Although correct me if I'm forgetting something important because it has been a while since I watched the earlier episodes/read the books. I need to rewatch/read.

How vanilla of them only to pick villains. (though I suppose that's the point of the list) Also it doesn't surprise me that people hate Cersei more than Walder, Roose, or Ramsay. She's a woman, and often female characters get it harder.

I was going to post it but one of the entries is "The entire Stark family (with the exception of Sansa)". Now my blood is boiling and I think I will avoid that site in future.

There's no chance that Stannis is on that list.

Sansa always gets a bad rap. Sure she was a brat in the first book, but she's had to deal with SO much shit. I always root for her now.

How is Cersei worse than Ramsay???? Odd choice there. And I agree with the person above me somewhere about Melisandre. She's a bit misunderstood. Most of my unsullied friends hate her too and I'm not sure why. Probably the leech thing. Maybe their opinions will change this season.

My unsullied friends hate Melisandre because she burns people and is a religious freak. I myself have a mixed opinion about her.

K, in response to popular demand, here's their 10 Most Loved Characters:
10 Most Loved Characters
10. Jaqen H’ghar: Unusual in his speech and true to his word, Arya Stark’s mysterious, lethal ally from Season 2 earned a spot in our hearts as the Batman of Westeros. H’ghar may be instrumental this season in fulfilling Arya’s ache for vengeance.
9. Brienne of Tarth: She may not know how to smile, but what Brienne lacks in basic human mouth function, she atones for in warrior spirit, loyalty and compassion.
8. Bronn and Podrick Payne (tie): Two of Tyrion’s closest/only friends, Podrick and Bronn are drastically different — the former is a humble, fiercely loyal squire; the latter, a brash thug-for-hire who bonds with Tyrion — but both are beloved for their association with him.
7. Samwell Tarly: Samwell emerged from the friend zone last season and into the indispensable character zone. With his growing confidence, lurching, stumbling bravery and a White Walker kill under his belt, he’s become a character we have faith in, a GoT rarity.
6. Jaime Lannister, One-Handed Version: OK, so yeah, he was a bad guy. But he’s changed! The truth is, he carried most of his evil in his right hand; now that it’s chopped off, he’s a good guy: he stops rapes, he jumps into lion pits to save friends and defies the law to save his brother Tyrion’s life.
5. Olenna Tyrell: The antithesis of ageist stereotypes, House Tyrell’s matriarch is wise, witty and a political savant, but the only reason we need to love her is she orchestrated the single most satisfying moment in GoT history: she killed the abominable, whiny, No. 1-reason-not-to-sleep-with-your-sibling, psychopath-and-a-half King Joffrey.
4. Sandor Clegane (a.k.a. The Hound): We didn’t include deceased characters on this list, so some may be saying, “Uh, didn’t the Hound die in Season 4?” Well, did he? Maybe Joffrey’s former bodyguard miraculously survived his epic brawl with Brienne. (And no, we haven’t read far enough ahead in the books to know for sure.) That we’re holding out hope speaks to our love for the Mountain’s little brother. Dude had all the best kill lines, too.
3. Daenerys Targaryen: Dany is our champion. For now. Rising like a dragon from misogynistic desert sand, she went from powerless pawn to kick-ass Khaleesi and great emancipator. The question now is whether her vengeance turns to pathology. She’s the Mad King’s daughter, after all.
2. The entire Stark Family, with the exception of Sansa: When GoT started, Ned Stark and family were its chief protagonists and the closest thing it had to pure heroes. They’ve principled to a naive fault, but the surviving members — bastard son Jon Snow, Ned’s legitimate son Bran, and daughters Arya and Sansa — will always be dear to viewers. (OK, not Sansa, the often-petulant teen.)
1. Tyrion Lannister: Tyrion begins GoT as a son of privilege and sneering womanizer on an alcoholic/self-pitying bender. Yet the more we learn of him — his vulnerability as a dwarf and a son and brother loathed by his father and sister — the more we cheer him. He’s a fugitive this season and if he is killed, his death will be the most devastating yet.

You can so clearly see that the text is written by an Unsullied. Geez, Dany is our champion. I'm surprised that she isn't number 1 or 2.
