I figured now that there's a dedicated section to Gaming, we might as well have a dedicated thread for CK2! WE can all share screenshots and stories of our games here. I haven't played in quite some time as I've been too wrapped up in the Westeros mod for Medieval 2 Total War, but I'm going to start playing again tonight or tomorrow and I'll have a story to share!

I have yet to purchase CKII, but it is definitely on my list! It's always a good time! I tend to play Total War more just because it's generally a quicker game but the Westeros mod hasn't been updated in about two years now (though it should be almost at v1.0 by now and an Essos version is quickly coming together), but it also tends to be far more frustrating than CKII because the AI is a bit fucky.

I have played a few games. I have played as House Umber, Greyjoy and Blackwood. I will need more practice before trying with Stannis. Grejoys are a lot of fun and I nearly won independence, but not quite..

Played as Stannis in Clash of Kings, won against Renly, Joffrey and Robb. Decided to exile Cersei rather than execute her. She joined a Dothraki Khalasar and eventually became "Khaleesi Cersei of _____ Khalasar"

I haven't got it yet because the £30 price tag feels a bit too much I will get it though when the price goes down or Steam has a sale

I just played a game as Dany in A Feast for Crows, didn't want to go to Westeros since I'm just getting back into it, plus I wanted to see how they handled Daznak's. Yunkai declared war on me immediately, I declined Xaro and Quentyn, took Daario as my lover and married Hizdahr just to keep with what we know. Then after Daznak's, Dany gets the "Missing" trait and you basically control the armies through Barristan while getting pop up events for what Dany does. I had Barristan name Reznak as Hand and the Green Grace as Master of Coin to keep them on my side, Drogon killed Jhaqo and Mago and I took the Khalsar to break the siege of the Demon Road while Barristan, Grey Worm, and Belwas commanded in Meereen. Hizdahr was arrested when I got back to Mereen and I found out that the Stormcrows left while I was away. You can find Daario through some means and press the "Character Location" button, which showed me that the Stormcrows were sailing to Westeros for really no reason at all. Anyway, I was wounded in the battle and Barristan died. Grey Worm became my top commander and I kept Arch and Drink around event though Quentyn died, they fought for me as well. There was relative quiet for a while, other than Yunkai trying sieges with like 1000 men and then Hizdahr demanded a trial by combat. My choices to fight him were Grey Worm, Drink, Arch, and Hero. I chose Hero since he was the only one I wasn't using as a commander at the time and of course he fucking lost and Hizdahr went free. Meanwhile, Arch had a baby born to some Dornish bastard, who I found out was part of a plot to kill me for some reason, so I had her imprisoned and Arch abandoned me. I tried to arrest Hizdahr again later on for starting a revolt, but it failed and he went to war with me, which was quickly ended and then his entire family was imprisoned. The rest of the time was spent fighting off sieges and taking back Meereen, which I had apparently lost to Hizdahr when the war started. I used Drogon at one point and he had a 5% chance to get the maimed trait and of course he got it and died a few months later. Viserion and Rhaegal also had a few incidents since I was never able to tame them and Meereen barely made any money since their crops were burned. I eventually ended up dying in some random battle and I never had an heir, so game over. The Sons of the Harpy weren't a huge deal in this, which was kind of sad but it would have meant that the revolt stat for Meereen would have to be 100% the whole time so I get it. Anyway, that's my story. Good to be back playing! I might try taking Dany to Westeros later on or playing as Robb.

So apparently the multiplayer works pretty well with the mod on. We should try to play a game all together at some point.

In one of the games I played as Rickard Karstark, and because I had the Way of Life DLC I could invite people to carouse, so I invited half the court of King's Landing. Eventually, Bronn became my friend and I married him to Alys. Robb lost the war, Winterfell, the North and his life. Hoster Tully decided to wage war against Joffrey to name Edric Storm as king, and he won. Stannis wasn't involved so he became independent: "Storm King Stannis". Back home, two of my nephews decided they wanted to join the Night's Watch and I imagine the third would have left if he wasn't married to Arya Stark. When I checked in what was happening in the south, I looked at Dorne to see who Arianne was married to, and it was to Oberyn. What's even weirder is that they had a son called Doran. Then, the game crashed (thankfully I don't have to enter that crazy world again)

I started a new save as Argilac the Arrogant, I managed to storm Blackwater bay and ended the war in a few weeks. I'm waiting for the ideal moment to seize the Iron Throne for house Durrandon. Ours is the fury

I'm thinking the Whitehill family tree needs some redoing after their history lesson in Sons of Winter. Also, I've noticed a lot of the age differences of characters is quite odd. For example theres know a six-year difference between Pod and his father

Just played as Doran during War of the Five Kings. Pretty uneventful, Stannis took King's Landing and ended the war pretty early. Then he crushed Robb's rebellion and made Bear Island my vassal for some reason . I gave it back to Robb once he was released from prison. I'm glad I got to keep Oberyn around, but Tyene and Sarella were both involved with plots against me so I sent them both to the Silent Sisters and let Oberyn marry Ellaria as consolation. I married Arianne, Quentyn, and Trystane off to various Dornish people and tried to get Arianne's husband sent to the Wall once Aegon showed up. That didn't work and I joined him anyway. The game crashed shortly after the autosave and joining Aegon looks like it was a bad idea, so dunno if I'll go back to that game or not. Should've stuck with Stannis. Best part is that Dany never showed up in Westeros.

Is it even possible for me to seize the Iron Throne? I claimed the Reach for my wife and now I'm a Storm King and Lord Paramount of the Reach (obviously I can't control this area). Is there any way of adding Reach to my Kingdom? Since I'm it's Lord Paramount and my wife has full control of it?

I've had her come a couple times, dunno if certain things have to happen in order to trigger it or not which completely depends on the AI on her side of the world. And did you have a de jure claim to press? You should be able to press that or something.

No I didn't, but I realized that my nephew has a claim to the IT (I wed my brother to a Targaryen, they had a kid and then she died). I declared war, my wife Lady Paramount of the Reach joined the IT and I got absolutely smashed, it wasn't really wise. I also realized that dragons couldn't be killed. Sigh.. How can you improve martial skill when you're an adult? I can't fight in tourneys, because I always get knocked out in the first round. Leading my armies myself wasn't smart since I got maimed and wounded. My character is 22 now and he's absolutely shit (6). Even my 7 year old son has a better rating. Embarrassing..

The best way to improve your swordsmanship is to lead your armies in battle. You can upgrade your swordsman skill and also your commander skill by being battle hardened. It's just dangerous as fuck

Your traits and your personal combat ability are more important, I believe. Although I often get wounded, I rarely die in combat unless it's a duel.

I once fought a Septon who had like 2 personal combat skill compared to my 12, and he rolled to dodge my attacks like 10 times in a row. It's even more frustrating when I sometimes don't even get the option to roll out of the way!

I got it about a year ago when it was on a super sale, but I never spent the time to figure out how to play it.
It's one of those games that looks really fun when you figure it out, but the learning curve looks beyond frustrating.
