One of the greatest songs ever created for a video game, if you have played Majora's Mask you will know it well. It captures the essence of the game completely. It's almost as if the song itself is a clock of emotions - capturing the emotions the people of the game feel, from denial to panic to acceptance of impending, but also fear of, death. It is poetic and beautiful. The song also works very well if you have this in the background on a low volume, RainyMood.

Those are all fantastic, but what about the Battlefield series?
It's just getting better!
My favorite

Pretty much everything from Nobuo Uematsu. The man is a genius.
The following tracks in particular give me goosebumps. It's actually kinda difficult for me to listen to them without getting teary eyed.
Terra's Theme from Final Fantasy VI:
You're not alone from Final Fantasy IX:
The Ending Theme/To Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X:
But there are so many more. It would be impossible to link them all, because it would literally kill your browsers, but just to mention a few:
- Pretty much all the Battle themes from all the Final Fantasies - The Battle on the Big Bridge (FF5) - Figaro Castle, Kefka's Theme, Celes' Theme, Aria di Mezzo Carattere, Dancing Mad (FF6) - Main Theme, Aeris' Theme, One Winged Angel, JENOVA, Cosmo Canyon (FF7) - Liberi Fatali, Balamb Garden, Compression of Time, The Extreme, Succession of Witches, Premonition, The Man with the Machine Gun, Eyes on Me, The Landing, Ending Theme (FF8) - The Place to Return to Someday, Rose of May, Festival of the Hunt, Kingdom of Burmecia, Eternal Harvest, Black Mage Village, The Soulless Village Bran Bal, Darkness of Eternity, Melodies of Life, Behind this Door (FF9) - To Zanarkand, Fight with Seymour, Hymn of the Fayth, The Sending, Lulu's Theme, Auron's Theme, The Truth Revealed, Otherworld, Servants of the Mountain, Wandering, Suteki Da Ne (FF10)

Nobuo Uematsu is a genius, indeed. But my favourite is Akira Yamaoka who wrote/composed the music for the Silent Hill games. For me his music is otherworldly. Try listening to it at night and when you are alone.

Try listening to it at night and when you are alone. I wouldn't say Akira Yamaoka is my favourite video game composer, but I do like his music a lot. Especially the music he composed for Silent Hill 2, which is still one of my favourite games. The Kingdom Hearts series also has some amazing music: Roxas' Theme: Dearly Beloved:The Silent Forest: (This one in particular is absolutely goosebumps inducing.) Tension Rising:

Well, I'm a huge Trip-Hop fan (Portishead is one of my favourite bands), so Yamaoka's music is totally my cup of tea. I also love how he connects horror with melancholy. It's quite sinister, but incredibly beautiful at the same time. I love that. The first three Silent Hill games are up there with the best games ever, IMO.

Those are all fantastic, but what about the Battlefield series? It's just getting better! My favorite Battlefield 1942 Menu music is the best of the whole series IMHO, even better than the BF1942 main theme. Those final high-pitched horns give me the msot nostalgic goosebumps every time I listen to it:
A kind of theme that most war games lack is the Japanese style one, which usually make my favorite tracks in the games that have them. I love the flute + taiko drums combination

Gusty Gardens Remix from Super Mario 3D World. That song and that level - one of the best video game experiences ever probably!

I listen to a few of Malukah's songs, which are game covers or inspired.
All time favourite theme though has gotta be the halo theme. I'd link it but taptalk is awful at linking anything.

Another beautiful theme: I love Kotor 2 so much. I wasnt a massive fan of the ending since there was no third game, but this music was really beautiful during the final cutscene.

I wasnt a massive fan of the ending since there was no third game, but this music was really beautiful during the final cutscene. The ending of Kotor 2 felt very rushed and unfinished and that's such a shame, because in my opinion, the rest of the game was brilliant. Kotor 2 was imo better than Kotor 1, the story is so depressing and sinister, and I love it. Also, the writing is incredible, especially for Kreia - who's my favourite character in all of Star Wars. I like how the movies, even the original trilogy, seem like harmless fairy tales for children in comparison to both Kotor games, but especially the second one. Emperor Palpatine seems like a silly, one-dimensional cartoon villain, if you compare him to Kreia with her shady and twisted world views and motivations.

How could I forget about my favourite song from one of my favourite games of all time ... What a thrill... All the Metal Gear vocal tracks are great. Even if some of them aren't even in English. Heaven's Divide is my personal favorite I think. Been listening to the FFVII soundtrack lately thanks to the Remake announcent. That's probably my favorite game soundtrack as a whole. When you play a game for 100+ hours the music better be good.

Agreed, all of them are great, but for me, Snake Eater wins, hands down. It's such an epic song and the lyrics are so silly and yet so awesome. It sets the mood perfectly and every time I listen to it, it gets me pumped to play the game. Out of all the FF-Soundtracks, I'd say FF8's is my favourite, but FF7 has an amazing soundtrack as well, I particularly love the theme of the Cosmo Canyon.

And Shinra Company's Theme too for some reason. Lots of catchy songs in that game. I must admit I never finished 8 because something was wrong with my second disc lol. I remember liking Eyes on Me though.

"Premonition" from FF8 is amazing:
It perfectly fits the theme of 'evil' sorcery, that runs through the whole game. I know, FF8 is extremely controversial, but it is among my favourite games, just because I find the lore amazing and I'm fascinated with all the sorceresses one encounters throughout the game (the four women depicted on that fanart in the video).
