Hello all!
Here we can discuss the GoT paralles between Dany and Jon. The show has been very consistent in showing the parallels between both of these characters. We have seen these parallels through themes and imagery.
Where is it going? What does it all mean?
Let's figure it out!
Season 1
- Episode 2 "The Kingsroad" : Both characters embark on a journey to their new lives, Dany heads to the Vaes Dothrak and Jon to the Wall.
- The fire on the candles Dany stares at around her dragon’s eggs fades into the campfire Jon is beside.
- Episode 3 "Lord Snow": Both Dany and Jon have blades held up to their necks.
- Episode 10 "Fire and Blood": Both Dany and Jon deal with the grief of loosing someone they love, Dany with Drogo and Jon with Ned. Also, Dany’s first scene lead's into Jon’s first scene. Jon’s second scene lead's into Dany’s second scene. Jon’s final scene lead's into Dany’s final scene.
- Episode 10 "Valar Morghulis": In Dany's visions in the House of the Undying she goes through the red keep to the Wall.
Season 3
- Episode 10 "Mhysa" :Both Dany and Jon are carried. Dany by the newly freed slaves of Yunkai and Jon by his fellows brothers from the Nights Watch.
Season 4
- Episode 9 "The Watchers on the Wall" and Episode 10 "The Children": Dany and Jon are left grieving and walking into an uncertain future. Dany chains away her dragons, afraid that they will harm another child. Jon buries Ygritte after the event at castle Black.
Season 5
- General - both are trying to incorporate a formerly persecuted group into the larger society. Facing opposition from the status quo, neither can seem to get both sides together.
- Episode 2 "The House of Black and White" and Episode 3 "High Sparrow": Dany and Jon execute members of their "organizations". Dany beheads Mossador for defying her orders and Jon beheads Slynt for defying his orders.
- Episode 5 "Kill the Boy": Jon seeks out Maester Aemon's advice regarding what he should do about a difficult situation, this is paralleled but Dany seeking out Missandei's advice about what she should do about a difficult situation. Both of their advices advice the, to follow their instincts. Additionally, both Dany and Jon release their prisoners in order to use them as allies. Also, there is the parallel of Sam and Missandei. Both of them are the "right-hand man" of each character and they are both in the mist of unorthodox romantic relationships.

It means that when Queen Daenerys ascends her throne that she will be more than happy to take her brother's bastard on as her consort. *ducks* Idk if that's what I would necessarily want to happen, but I'd rather that than Dany being Jon's consort. King Jon who saved all the world is a bit too...saccharine for my tastes. EDIT: Maybe this should go in GoT talk rather than season 5? |

It means that when Queen Daenerys ascends her throne that she will be more than happy to take her brother's bastard on as her consort. *ducks* Idk if that's what I would necessarily want to happen, but I'd rather that than Dany being Jon's consort. King Jon who saved all the world is a bit too...saccharine for my tastes. EDIT: Maybe this should go in GoT talk rather than season 5? I will agree with you on this. It it would be nice to have a queen in her right reign. Whether it's the 7 kingdoms or a section of a divided Westeros I don't care. As for Jon, he can be her consort or the Lord Commander of her Queensguard. That would be cool. I also wanted to use to use this thread to document the parallels we see throughout Season 5 and other seasons. |

I'm still kind of betting on Dany going mad and Jon having to kill her instead of ruling the Seven Kingdoms with her.
In the books at least, the show they will probably rule together.

From Season 4 episodes 9 and 10. We have a lot of similar imagery with both Dany and Jon walking into the light and both crying and they leave loved ones behind.   |

Season 3X10 has both Dany and Jon being carried by their people. Dany in her infamous "crowd surfing" scene, and Jon being carried off by his brothers of the NW after being shot by Ygritte.

Even though they only included a couple of her visions in the House of the Undying, Dany seeing the King's Landing throne room in ashes and then seeing Drogo and Rhaego beyond the Wall I think was definitely foreshadowing her fate. If Dany saw the blue rose growing from the ice, it might not have meant anything to the Unsullied. Which is why D&D should include a flashback of the Tourney at Harrenhal or The Tower of Joy.

There is a blue rose that appears in the HOTU, it's a glass window and it's the first thing Dnay sees when she walks in. The Executions
The House of Black and White: Dany's execution of Mossador. The situation was made to look very similar to Robb’s beheading of Rickard Karstark. Here we have two young leaders holding prisoners form an opposition/enemy group, then having a supporter of theirs break into the cell where these prisoner(s) are being held and kill them, violated a direct order from the King/Queen. Thus, both young leaders feel obligated to behead their supporter.
High Sparrow: Jon's execution of Slynt.The styling and mannerism of Jon execution Slynt emulated those of Robb killing Karstark. I am also informed that the music used in the execution of Karstark is the same used for the execution of Slynt.
So, we have a parallel between Dany and Jon but also between the two of them and Robb.

Biggest parallel this series?
The set up. Tyrion and Varys joining Dany while Stannis and Jon seem paired up. Also the whole Little finger's betting...
Great parallel between the two stories.
The bit about marriages is a strong link too. Dany uniting the slaves and former masters and Jon uniting the free folk and Nights watch by allying with an old friend whose loyalties are questionable.
Yeah, they are massively paralleled, this series especially.
