I remember first watching the show and knowing nothing about the series. The opening was such a draw. It's so vast and all the gears and mechanisms seem kind of like a metaphor for the series. Not to mention the theme is incredibly catchy, I hear people whistling or humming it all the time. I think its part of what makes the show iconic. I remember Mark Addy saying that if you went to Westeros, you could just take the opening credits as a guide. Anyone feel the same way?

Great thread. I remember when I started watching the show (after Season 3) I was mesmerized with the intro lol. It's a big part of the show and I never skip it. The theme song is also my ringtone!

I liked it from the first time I watched the show. Very much. I play role-playing games you know, and it reminds me so much of the steampunk setting. With the towers unfolding, etcpp.
Yeah, it brings you to all those places in your mind. It really feels like a kind of map and guide.
And the track from Ramin is perfect for it. (Liking the music of someone who's casually referring to Hans Zimmer can't be wrong.)

It's amazing. After 5 years I haven't skipped it once.

Excellent thread. They have the best opening sequence I've ever seen, and I love how they change it when we see new cities.
The theme is so addicting too. I have it on my iPod. lol

I've always said, if some company came up with a way to make the various pieces of the map in miniature clockworks, they'd have a gold-mine on their hands as I'm quite sure tons of fans would buy them as collectors pieces even if they were quite expensive each. In fact I'd rather they be expensive and well made like they look on the show even though I know they're just computer animated. People pay a mint for the replica swords and other stuff from Lord of the Rings, why not exceptionally well made replicas of the intro map?

I remember some really detailed pop-up books somewhere, that would be awesome. Lego would be great, too, but this shit is crazy expensive. I just thought of origami models. Alas, I'm not skilled enough for that.

It is a fantastic opening. However, through the seasons, I've tired of it. Yes, it previews new places we're to see. But, I'm so impatient! Get to the story, already dammit!

Alas, I'm not skilled enough for that. I only ever saw the pop up book in an Ozzyman video, but it looked really good. I know they've made amps and stuff, but I think a world model would best be left until after the series ends, so we would actually have all the locations, instead of waiting for them to update.

So, I'm re-watching 5.09 again during the finale wait, and I just now the husband of bears has a paw-print as his sigil in the opening.

Fantasting opening. Sometimes when I watch the episode with my dad he just does stuff with his phone and I am like: "The fuck you doing? The episode already started?"
